Project of the Month: November 2017
The customer had an existing covered space that unfortunately was not big enough to meet their needs and the open gable left them vulnerable to the sun and other elements. They were trying to create enough room for a kitchen, living area, and dining area. The brick arches were made for architectural/design purposes and functional purposes as well. These arches helped close off the sun and other elements to keep the space cool. The customer had an existing fireplace in the old space that had a Boston stone finish so we matched the stone for the small entertainment/TV/dining area that has a curved wall with a half circle of granite sitting on top. It was important for them to use this stone when the house was first built and when we were adding on as they are from Boston and wanted to bring something from home into the space. Instead of going full rustic they went with more of a French country style with a rustic flair. The customer also liked being involved in the project. They pre-made the shutters and also “distressed” the 8”x10” cedar beams before we installed them. Instead of using stainless steel appliance finishes we custom made cedar doors for storage and the facing of the fridge.
