Vadodara Houzz: A Modish Second Home With Art-Centric Decor
Eclectic furnishings, pops of vibrant colours and indoor plants enliven this home by Ignitus Architectural Studio
“The bungalow is designed for a family that usually lives abroad. They wanted a modish second home that can be easily wrapped up – an ideal Indian house that is cosy and defines luxury with low-maintenance furniture,” says Chirag Panchal, principal architect and founder of Ignitus Architectural Studio. Adhering to this brief, the designer revved up spaces with quirky artworks and indoor plants, creating a fuss-free decor scheme.
Muted tones of beige and brown in the upholstery complement the colourful wallpaper. A grey durrie anchors the seating arrangement. The centre table, side table and sofa are custom made by Nine Design Studio.

The open-plan living room leads to the kitchen, which sports industrial decor.
Finished in PU, the steely grey hues of the cabinets and dining table give neutral relief from the sprightly colours of the living room. A cluster of suspended lights tie the look together and illuminate the dining table. The breakfast counter doubles as the main dining table.
Instead of a conventional backsplash, exposed brick walls provide coarse texture that contrasts with the smooth cabinets. Woody hues and under-cabinet lighting create a warm and cohesive ambience.
Next to the kitchen is the guest bedroom, which is decorated with traditional colours. “Since the guest bedroom is going to be used infrequently, we designed a sofa bed to furnish the area, along with the wardrobe. The idea was to create a pared-back design scheme with a cosy and inviting vibe,” says Panchal.

A staircase from the living room leads to the first floor, which houses the master bedroom and the son’s bedroom.
At the end of the staircase is the master bedroom. A low-height bed sits on a platform that demarcates the seating and sleeping areas. “Awash in teal green and complementing shades of blue, the room follows geometric patterns in every corner. A cushioned headboard with a linear grid adds a touch of grandeur to the room,” says Panchal.
The wardrobe and circular wooden side tables give continuity to the geometrical design narrative. Pendant lamps suspended at unequal heights create a layered look with added depth.

The cushion covers, curtains and throws are from Fabindia. Locally sourced gajji silk adorns the wardrobe doors and is dyed to match the decor palette. Art Deco style digital paintings unify the colour scheme. The PVC flooring is from Armstrong Floorings.

“The ensuite master bathroom is furnished to provide opulence and elegance with minimalism,” says Panchal.
Drenched in mellow red, the son’s bedroom has an eclectic yet inviting vibe. Red also happens to be his favourite colour. The accent wall behind the bed features an asymmetrical groove pattern and serves as a canvas to hang artwork. The grey and blue tufted headboard offsets the vibrant red. A plant next to the bed accentuates the tropical decor.

The main door opens into the living room, where a tropical-themed wallpaper by Designsane catches the eye. “The homeowners, being fond of the tropical theme, were keen on incorporating it somewhere in the house. Therefore, a forest-themed wallpaper was used for the accent wall,” says Panchal.
