“The homeowners wanted their apartment to be luxurious and classic with a modish touch in certain spaces. When we introduced the European-style design, they felt an instant connection to it and thus began the journey of finding the perfect balance between vintage and contemporary European elements to create an opulent home,” says Ketaki Poonawala, principal architect and founder of Ketaki Poonawala Designs, describing this apartment in Deccan Gymkhana, Pune.

Moulded double doors with antique brass handles open into the foyer where walls with arched panels and motif keystones set the theme for Victorian-inspired interiors. Behind the custom chair, a glazed arch opening gives a glimpse of the patio on the other side.

White panels and mouldings with cornices give the kitchen a French country feel. A retro skeleton wall clock injects an eclectic vibe.
“The living room opens into a quaint patio with printed floor tiles and a raw teak-wood swing finished in wicker. Traveller’s palm and bougainvillea set up a balcony garden,” says Poonawala.
In the media room, a reclaimed wood ceiling and reclining chairs create an inviting ambience. An Audrey Hepburn artwork gives a playful lift to the setting. The patterned terrazzo flooring is from Bharat Flooring.
This games area adds to the fun quotient and livens up the media room, encouraging active play.

Notes of beige and gold take centre stage in the master bedroom with round hand-painted nightstands and an embellished tufted headboard.
Sumptuous curtains from Dalan Furnishings complement the muted hues of this cosy reading spot.
In the master bathroom, the distressed-wood cabinets offset the exuberant black Portoro marble.
The master bedroom extends to a deck with a jacuzzi and elevated seating in raw black stone, topped with cushions. Buddha bamboo plants offer privacy and add a pop of colour.
Next to the master bedroom is the 12-year-old son’s bedroom. A soft, calm white dominates the room through the four-poster bed, a study unit facing the outdoors and sliding panel wardrobe doors, while the walls harmonise in white, grey and blue. The neutral theme is livened up with pops of red. Wooden flooring and blinds bring warmth to this space.
The bathroom is an extension to this bedroom with similar elements in grey marble, brown wood and red sanitary fixtures.
