Total Environment- Learning to Fly
I've had my eye on this Total Environment project for a couple of years. The owners are old clients of mine. I had done their previous home 13 years ago. So when they bought this apartment, they came back to me. Some of the woodwork was already done; for instance, the kitchen and the wardrobes. But they were the default neutral woodwork that the builder had provided and the new owners need a few splashes of color. The family of three- husband, wife and son are voracious readers, so it was imperative that they had a large library which would be the centre of their new home. So we opened up one wall of the living room, built a library around the opening and turned the adjacent room behind the wall into a reading corner. The dull beige-grey kitchen got a facelift with green and almond shutters and pretty ceramic and wood handles. The green of the kitchen is repeated on the louvered teak shutters of the library opening. The default red brick of the foyer wall brick was painted white. Then we placed a pretty wooden bench in front of it and painted that a rich red. A large shoe storage unit in the foyer with beautiful teak and fabric panelled shutters adds another another dimension to this space.
