Prayer is an integral part of most Indian homes. Whether it is elaborate and ritualistic, with bhajans, lamps, bells and musical invocation, or a quick and silent hand-on-heart moment of entreaty or gratitude, prayer is a part of our daily lives. Here are a few of the interpretations we have given to this very necessary space

This delightful corner shelf is one of our very first in this product category. Look at the support brackets- 'do hanson ka joda'!

Here is a tiny wall hung unit which has a single picture inside and a projecting shelf for lighted 'diyas' or agarbathis when the unit is in use

This is an old favourite. The only East-facing wall available in this house for the puja was in the verandah overlooking the inner courtyard. We created a tiny niche in the wall here. A terracotta statue of Lord Krishna was bought from a roadside artisan and polished. A hanging brass lamp, a teak...

Another teak veneer faced Puja door. This one has traditional brass ornaments and handles, but what sets it apart were two beautiful antique silver ornaments depicting the Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Seen on the following pages.

A Close-up of the Lord Ganesha ornament picked up from an antique jewellery store. You can see the traditional green athangudi tiles when you peep over his shoulder.

Another wall-hung puja cabinet with a little more elaborate detailing. The fluted 'pillars' and the cornice above add a nice touch.

A smaller, less elaborate version of the earlier peacock themed door. Antique bronze bells from Tibet act as sentinels and add resonance to this otherwise simple door.

The owners of this house wanted a traditional 'Om' sign in brass on the door. We decided to give it a twist. This glorious shape looks stunning when back-lit from inside the puja space
