This classic kitchen was designed using Art Deco inspirations. Custom white painted cabinetry is contrasted with a black island and two different types of granite. Granite and tile is inlaid into the wood flooring creating unique definition. Vintage lighting adds a dramatic yet elegant presence to the space.

The clients live in a beautiful view home in the northwest hills above Portland, Oregon. Their corridor kitchen had dark “Craftsman” style cabinets with a dark granite tile countertop and “grids” on the two large windows. They wanted was contemporary design that would enhance their enjoyment of the kitchen, as they love to cook and entertain family and friends. We replaced the two large windows to eliminate the “grids”. Selecting the quartered / figured sycamore veneer wood for the custom cabinets provided the light, sleek, contemporary look they wanted. Better recessed lighting for work tasks, under cabinet lighting and ambient up lighting created a softer feel for the space. Two undermount stainless steel sinks in Fieldstone solid surface creates work stations for two cooks. The 2” x 4” glass tiles in four glorious shades of aqua to emerald for the full backsplash continued a ribbon of tiles around the kitchen and nook. Radiant floor heating keeps their tile floor warm in the winter months and provides easy maintenance. Custom curved “floating” glass shelves hold the clients stainless steel pepper mill collection. A custom glass round table built specifically for the nook was the finishing touch to this gourmet kitchen.

White Macaubas Quartzite is a naturally occurring (aka not man made at all) stone that closely resembles marble but has the durability of granite. These young parents in Northwest Washington, D.C. wanted the modern look of marble, but also needed something more durable. The full backsplash is bookmatched, and the edge profile is a three-quarter inch bevel.

This family kitchen is highly functional and has style to spare.The kitchen features a beautiful range hood, gold granite and backsplash. The Painted Linen and Painted Carbon cabinets create a unique contrast, and treated glass doors and display shelving round out the space.

This welcoming kitchen features custom white inset cabinetry complete with carved corbels flanking the hood beautifully contrasted by the black granite counter tops. On the island the color palette was reversed with a painted black island covered in calacatta gold marble. Lively blue glass tiles accent the backsplash and give this gorgeous kitchen a bright pop of color.

This bathroom was introduced into an 1853 Greek Revival row house. The home owners desired modern amenities like radiant floor heating, a steam shower, and a towel warmer. But they also wanted the space to match the period charm of their older home. A large glass-encased shower stall is the central player in the new bathroom. Lined with 3" x 6" white subway tile and fully enclosed by glass, the shower is bright and welcoming. And then the transom window at the top is closed, steam jets lining the shower create a relaxing spa. Although placed on an interior wall, the new bath is filled with abundant natural light, thanks to transom windows which welcome sunshine from the hallway. Photos by Shelly Harrison.

One of the best things about a MaRae Simone design is its purposefully unisex character. This light condo bedroom marries a white, bright paint with the contrast of deep, dark brown. Clean, crisp white sheets look even more inviting than before amidst this rich bedframe echoed by the cowhide rug. This is a space that all will enjoy. The newly renovated kitchen includes multiple finishes and textures, including subway tile, sueded perimeter countertops and white Alaskan island countertop. Modern appliances with proper clearances and ventilation also improve the functionality of the space.
