One of the best things about a MaRae Simone design is its purposefully unisex character. This light condo bedroom marries a white, bright paint with the contrast of deep, dark brown. Clean, crisp white sheets look even more inviting than before amidst this rich bedframe echoed by the cowhide rug. This is a space that all will enjoy.

In the kitchen, crisp white cabinetry by Benchmark Wood Studio joins subway tile and granite countertops for a timeless touch. The island, which matches the alder beams on the ceiling, comfortably seats up to five people in the light and airy space.

Cabinet Innovations
Wall cabinets on bar area feature clear glass inserts and recessed bottoms for under cabinet lighting throughout. Rolling ladder with rail around the kitchen for access of upper wall cabinets. The design of the kitchen is finished with granite countertops, white subway tile and stainless steel appliances. The traditional design calls for a large farmhouse sink designed with leg posts on either side and decorative toe kick valance. Ceiling puck lighting and the existing chandelier reinforce the traditional style of this kitchen. Featuring all Brookhaven and Wood-Mode inset cabinets.

We expanded a formerly dark, small, outdated kitchen and made it open, bright and airy. The glass doors and open plate rack of the kitchen cabinets add depth, color and geometry to the room. The door knobs and cabinet hardware are round simple forms, a detail that echoes the round table and art form shapes on the walls.

Furthering her plan to enhance the room's architecture, Suzanne turned one corner of the kitchen into a cheery dining area with an L-shaped built-in bench that mimics the cabinetry. To keep the dining nook cozy (not restaurant-like) she surrounded the metal bistro table with slipcovered armchairs and hung a sparkly chandelier above.
Using the same patterned fabric on the window valances and pillows throughout (Montmartre in Clay/Blue from her own collection for Lee Jofa; leejofa.com), Suzanne introduced color and life to the kitchen without taking away from the all-white effect. Photo by Erica George Dines for Southern Living

Our homeowner had dreamt about one day redoing her beyond outdated kitchen since they day her husband carried her over the threshold. Vinyl flooring used for a backsplash, dingy carpeting, laminate with no sheen left to speak of and mismatched cabinetry…. it was time to make it happen. A year’s worth of planning later, her time capsule became one dreamy kitchen.
Functionality reigns supreme in this small, but efficient kitchen where every cabinet has a story to tell and a place to store it. Countertop space to the right of the stove was an added necessity for function and safety. The raised snack bar is perfect for day to day meals and the lowered countertop was a must for this petite baker. A new lighting plan includes recessed lights, under-cabinet and accent lights, while new lighting fixtures reflect the client’s sense of style. Dingy brick patterned carpet was removed making way for new hardwood floors toothed in from the dining room.
An airy palette gained some weight with the use of larger details; the oversized hood, beefy turned posts, prominent apron front sink and a grouping of tall cabinets on the refrigerator wall. Glass cabinet fronts, shiny beveled subway tile, and granite countertops allow light to dance around the space.

This dramatic design takes its inspiration from the past but retains the best of the present. Exterior highlights include an unusual third-floor cupola that offers birds-eye views of the surrounding countryside, charming cameo windows near the entry, a curving hipped roof and a roomy three-car garage.
Inside, an open-plan kitchen with a cozy window seat features an informal eating area. The nearby formal dining room is oval-shaped and open to the second floor, making it ideal for entertaining. The adjacent living room features a large fireplace, a raised ceiling and French doors that open onto a spacious L-shaped patio, blurring the lines between interior and exterior spaces.
Informal, family-friendly spaces abound, including a home management center and a nearby mudroom. Private spaces can also be found, including the large second-floor master bedroom, which includes a tower sitting area and roomy his and her closets. Also located on the second floor is family bedroom, guest suite and loft open to the third floor. The lower level features a family laundry and craft area, a home theater, exercise room and an additional guest bedroom.

This was a 1950's lake cabin that we transformed into a permanent residence. As a cabin, the original builder hadn't taken advantage of the beautiful lake view. This became the main focus of the design, along with the homeowners request to make it bright and airy. We created the vaulted ceiling and added many large windows and skylights.
