Bengaluru Houzz: Cheerful Home for a Young Family
Clean-lined customised furniture, a soothing colour palette and the clever use of space define this home by Signa Design
The brief given to Rashmin Perla and Darshana Patel, designers and partners at Signa Design, was simple. “The homeowners wanted a trendy new-age house which reflected their personalities – charming and vivacious. Adhering to this brief, we created a cleverly designed apartment that celebrated colours and contemporary furniture. To give a luxe makeover, we worked on small details of furniture and décor elements rather than focusing on the big picture,” says Patel.
“The TV is mounted on a vertical box hiding the set top box and the router. This box panel is fixed on a painted geometric-patterned wall to enhance this functional zone. The showstopper is the centre table in a metal frame with a vitrified tile top,” Perla says. “All the furniture in the house was made at our own design and manufacturing facility. The owners had given us carte blanche on the design development and finishing, based on our presentation of the concept.”

Tucked away in a corner for privacy, the dining area abuts a semi-open kitchen. The dining table has a Statuario marble tabletop resting on a red wrought-iron lattice base. A muted grey sofa and chairs with woven vinyl backs contribute subtly to the colour scheme, creating an inviting ambience.

Geometric backsplashes and azure cabinetry enliven the neutral colour palette of this kitchen. The designers have packed a punch with smart storage and carved out space for a home bar, too.

A corridor from the living area leads to the bedrooms. In the master bedroom, a chevron-patterned accent wall behind the bed commands attention. The denim headboard features button tufting and is mounted on a brass rail for a hint of bling. The side tables continue the subtle glitz of metal.

Next to the master bedroom is the guest bedroom. Here, the oak-wood headboard anchors the bed and extends to form the framework for shelves. Awash in pastel blues, the walls create a cool and refreshing interior.

“The kids’ bedroom is a blend of fun, design and safety. It is all about an intimate dreamscape with custom beds that are reminiscent of a campsite. Sandwiched between the beds is a sofa with a play table,” says Patel.

The entrance leads into an open-plan living and dining room. In the living area, the custom brass wall rack and side tables catch the eye and imbue a sense of luxury and drama. The textured pastel-green sofa contrasts with the glamour of the metal. A traditional white rocking chair fits right into this rather minimalist and modern space.
