Gurgaon Houzz: Wooden Accents & Minimalist Decor Define This Home
A clutter-free design scheme and open, well-ventilated spaces breathe life into this house by Intrigue Studio + Lab
The brief given to Devyani Gupta and Nehit Vij, principal architects and founders of Intrigue Studio + Lab, was clear. “The homeowners wanted an apartment with a minimalist, clean-lined look with emphasis on wood as a material,” says Vij. Adhering to the brief, the designers used wood as the frontline material to bring in warmth and visual interest. They also rearranged the interior walls to create a seamless connection with the sprawling balconies and terraces. This allowed ample natural light to stream in from all sides.
The passage leads to the living and dining areas that have a minimalist, contemporary and non-fussy decor. Thin strips of wood frame the doorways and border the ceiling, giving a sense of flow to the design narrative.

Linear patterns of wood add warmth and loads of personality to the living room. The exposed brick finish and textured white paint draw attention and complement the pastel hues of the couch. Glass doors sectionalise the balcony and allow natural light to fill the space.

The designers have used varied yet complementing wood finishes in the dining room, including the chairs, table and corner bar unit. This has bought in warmth to the decor. Hanging pendant lights and walls with a deep-beige textured grit finish add subtle drama.

A louvred sliding door sectionalises the kitchen from the dining room. The asymmetrical pattern of the louvres gives a modern twist to the rustic sliding barn door design.

Glossy deep-blue subway tiles have been used in certain areas, including the backsplash. The dark veneer floating cabinet and light beige tiles on the counter add to the lustre.

A few steps from the foyer passage is a guest bedroom. “The guest bedroom is in hues of pastel green with a vibrant leafy wallpaper, adding colour to the room. There is a separate walk-in closet which is accessible from the room through quaint hardwood and semi-opaque double glass doors,” says Gupta.
In the master bedroom, neutral hues of white marble, a grey accent wall and black suspended lights are juxtaposed with the warmth of wooden elements such as the teak floating bed, door and furniture.

White marble flooring from the bedroom continues in the master bathroom. A clean-lined floating vanity immediately catches the eye here. The glass partition separates the shower area and adds to the sense of expanse.

“The kids’ bedroom has a floating bed finished with a blue border on the headboard and the tiled flooring,” says Gupta. The door with battens gives continuity to the material palette of wood.
Patterned tiles and decorative wooden accessories on the wall give a playful vibe to this space. A dark-blue basin provides colourful relief from the earthy tones of greys and browns.
The house has two terraces that accentuate the seamless flow of internal-external spaces.

The main door opens into a foyer which leads into a passage. “The passage connects all the rooms together and is the first space visible upon entering the apartment. We added an array of hardwood display shelves that are suspended from the ceiling and a 30-feet-long suspended light in this area,” says Gupta.
Wood has been integrated into the home in numerous ways, such as the sleek strips of wooden paneling on the walls, ceiling and so on.
