Anand Houzz: A Home Dipped In Cantaloupe Hues & Pristine Charm
Muted colours, natural light and clean-lined contemporary furniture punctuate this bungalow by Ace Associates
Cofounders and principal architects of Ace Associates Ashish Patel and Nikhil Patel were asked to build a model home. The architects consolidated the living, dining and kitchen spaces into one sprawling open-plan area without the restriction of walls.
In the living area, custom-made velvety sofas from Be Komfort imbue subtle luxury. Lines of narrow beams in the ceiling add depth to the decor without taking up floor space.

A textured acrylic accent wall serves as the backdrop for the seating arrangement. Silvery artefacts add a layered visual appeal and subtle glamour.
The custom dining table projects rugged minimalism with its stone top and solid wood-clad base, balanced by the delicate, lightweight look of the chairs from De Modes, finished in white wood with slender brass legs. Beams in the ceiling hold recessed and hanging pendant lights to illuminate the table. A shelf unit with attached lattice screen doubles as a functional and decorative element to partially segregate zones.

In the U-shaped modular kitchen, glass-finish cabinets enliven the space. A peninsula-cum-breakfast counter and a band of floor-to-ceiling wooden panelling define the kitchen boundaries without the need for walls.
The latticed screen lends a traditional character and much needed privacy to this serene puja room without restricting ventilation.

“As you enter the ground floor bedroom, the white-and-blue theme pleases the eyes. The minimalistic approach to design enhances the beauty of the space,” says Ashish Patel. The textured white acrylic wall with a single framed painting creates a layered vignette and brings a burst of character to the bed area.
Stairs from the living and dining area lead to the first floor.
Coming up from the stairs, this bedroom is on the left. A velvet carpet anchors the low bed. Vertical grids partition the dressing area while retaining a sense of openness.
“Behind the sheer curtains, a balcony overlooks the garden on the ground level. Clean-lined, minimal furniture and good lighting set up the mood,” says Nikhil Patel.

Instead of conventional furniture, the architects designed rocker-finish tile side tables and a matching console for the third bedroom. The box ceiling gives continuity to the design narrative. The cantaloupe hues of the acrylic textured walls instil a serene vibe.
To the right, at the top of the stairs, is the kids’ bedroom with two beds. Upholstered dados flank the beds, going round the corners, and double as cushioned headboards. An eclectic wallpaper and a glowing sign that says “fun” set out a playful theme.
