As a model apartment, this design project came without a brief, giving architects Ashish Patel, Nikhil Patel and Nilesh Dalsania, and interior designer Vasudev Sheta, of Ace Associates, free rein over the creative process.

“Since it was meant to be a show home, we decided to create a design scheme with multiple zones and aesthetics, to showcase a range of options to potential buyers. In that vein, we explored a plethora of material and colour palettes, employing a unique combination in each room,” says Ashish.

The main door opens into a beige-toned foyer, characterised by a feature wall with striking blue jharokha-style (traditional Indian overhanging enclosed balconies) niches. The niches serve as a showcase for ornamental wall-mounted hand sculptures. To the right of the foyer lies the living room.

“The home hosts a variety of wall and flooring materials and designs. We experimented with wooden panels and different types of tiles as we went along. The walls, too, display an assortment of textures and finishes. Each room became a canvas for new inspiration,” says Ashish.

The living room continues the beige and taupe colour palette of the foyer, using the muted colour scheme to highlight the decor within. A set of eye-popping turquoise sofas mirror the blue wall niches of the foyer, while a pair of vanilla floral-print wing chairs counter the bright bursts of colour. A recessed backlit wall niche with sculptural metal wall art defines the feature wall.

The dining area is visually connected to the living room by way of its colour infusions. A wooden dining table is flanked by a bench and chairs, whose cyan upholstery reflects the blue tones of the foyer and living room. The space steps up the colour scheme by incorporating bolder, brighter hues like cranberry, canary yellow and navy blue through the pendant lamps and artwork.

“Of the four bedrooms, we modelled three as master bedrooms. It was a great way of showcasing possible design and decor options to prospective home-buyers,” says Ashish.

The bedroom on the ground floor is one of the three master bedroom designs. The moss-green wall, featuring a tree with yellow blossoms, has been hand-painted by an artist. The chocolate-toned headboard has a restrained appeal, while the jade-hued floral-print scatter cushions are a fitting reflection of the feature wall overhead.

“The wall art in this bedroom perfectly complements the warm wood grain of the furniture. Together, the aesthetic channels the colours of the forest,” says Ashish.

The lobby on the first floor is enveloped in mystical Mediterranean charm. A sweeping backlit arch is matched by a square recessed wall alcove on the adjacent wall. Birdcage pendants add sparkle to the space while an azure tufted ottoman anchors the surrounding decor elements.

The first floor hosts the two other bedrooms. The first, a melange of brilliant blue and crisp white, is an island-style escape. With distressed cobalt furniture, mirrored wall accents and exposed brick walls, the room is decidedly unfussy, with an elegant coastal-chic spirit.

In keeping with the evolving theme, the third bedroom design is minimalist and mellow. Vanilla walls and deep wood finishes cocoon the bedroom in classic, old-world vibes, a sentiment reinforced by the imposing four-poster bed. Crimson and sapphire-blue accent pillows adorn the plain bed. A pair of simple paintings flank the headboard, adding a subdued dose of colour to the space.
