With significant internal wall remodelling, we removed an existing bedroom and utilised a lounge room to pave the way for a large open plan kitchen and dining area. We also removed an unwanted file storage room that backed onto the study and existing kitchen which allowed to the installation of a fully insulated temperature controlled cellar. A galley style kitchen was selected for the space and at the heart of the design is a large island bench that focuses on engagement and congregation and provides seating for 6. Acting as the activity hub of the kitchen, the island consists of split level benchtop which provides additional serving space for this family of avid entertainers. A standout feature is the large utility working wall that can be fully concealed when not in use and when open reveals not only a functional space but beautiful oak joinery and LED lit display shelving. The modern design of the kitchen is seen through the clean lines which are given an edge through the layering of materials resulting in a striking and rich palette. The all-black kitchen works well with the natural finishes and rawness of the timber finishes. The refined lines of the slimline Dekton benchtops complimented by the dark 2-pac and large format tiles make for a timeless scheme with an industrial edge. A fireplace was installed in the seating nook off the kitchen which was clad in rustic recycled timber, creating a textural element as well as bringing warmth and a sense of softness to the large space.

With this project we made good use of that tricky space next to the eaves by sectioning it off with a partition wall and creating an en suite wet room on one side and dressing room on the other. I chose these gorgeous green slate tiles which tied in nicely with the twin hammered copper basins and brass taps.

This expansive look at the gorgeous kitchen and leading onto the patio gives focus to the modern-style kitchen island while also emphasising the depth provided by the open patio doors. The island itself features a Bora induction cooktop with an amazing inbuilt extractor fan, which makes cooking a real breeze.

Looking into into the kitchen from the adjacent family room. The doors to the patio are just out of view to the left. To the right is the open air atrium. The skylights bring in abundant light, leaving the walls free for a long run of cabinetry. The over-sized island is used for informal meals and homework. The table to the left is used by the parents and two children for dinners and weekend pancakes.

A 1980's townhouse located in the Fitler Square neighborhood of Philadelphia was in need of an upgrade. The project that resulted included substantial interior renovation to the four-story townhome overlooking the Schuylkill River. The Owners desired a fresh interpretation of their existing space, more suited for entertaining and uncluttered modern living. This led to a reinvention of the modern master suite and a refocusing of architectural elements and materials throughout the home. Originally comprised of a divided master bedroom, bathroom and office, the fourth floor was entirely redesigned to create a contemporary, open-plan master suite. The bedroom, now located in the center of the floor plan, is composed with custom built-in furniture and includes a glass terrarium and a wet bar. It is flanked by a dressing room on one side and a luxurious bathroom on the other, all open to one another both visually and by circulation. The bathroom includes a free-standing tub, glass shower, custom wood vanity, eco-conscious fireplace, and an outdoor terrace. The open plan allows for great breadth and a wealth of natural light, atypical of townhouse living. The main entertaining floor houses the kitchen, dining area and living room. A sculptural ceiling defines the open dining area, while a long, low concrete hearth connects the new modern fireplace with the concrete stair treads leading up. The bright, neutral color palette of the walls and finishes contrasts against the blackened wood floors. This contemporary master bathroom has all the elements of a roman bath—it’s beautiful, serene and decadent. Double showers and a partially sunken Jacuzzi add to its’ functionality.
