This space started out as a 2 car garage! The large garage door openings were replaced with Nana folding doors to create the indoor / outdoor flow to planned courtyard and adjacent guesthouse. An additional Nana door was added to the front side to open up the corner and take advantage of the sweeping vineyard views and new swimming pool. The garage had challenging spatial limitations due to existing structural and plumbing. We had to negotiate around these items in our space planning to keep things respectful of budget. Zeitgeist transformed this garage into 4 unique living zones (kids area / guest nook / music / afromosia lounge) to work both independently and collectively for the family and numerous weekend guests. Bringing the outdoors in through these expansive Nana doors which virtually disappear as they fold out of the way, was key to connecting the living space with the adjacent courtyard. Across this shared court, identical flooring materials flow seamlessly in and out from the main living space to the new pool house and guest quarters aiding to the indoor / outdoor sensibility and the special sense of place. While the client's are city dwellers during the week with modern urban aesthetics, as their country retreat, they definitely wanted a more earthy, relaxed character fitting into the Sonoma County lifestyle. We kept things fresh, simple and in the zeitgeist by using many natural materials, with the interest coming from texture and beautiful forms. We integrated oiled oak floors with afromosia hand scrapped wall paneling, teak cabinetry and several custom walnut furnishings. Two new guest suites were added to this Bryn Mawr residence on the attic floor. Project Details: New wide plank flooring, architectural molding & casework to match existing. Recessed niches were added for extra storage, all new plumbing and vanities were added. Both bathrooms have walk in showers with frameless glass enclosures and minimalist finishes to keep the spaces open and airy feeling.

The homeowner of this ranch style home in Orange Park Acres wanted the Kitchen Breakfast Nook to become a large informal Dining Room that was an extension of the new Great Room. A new painted limestone effect on the used brick fireplace sets the tone for a lighter, more open and airy space. Using a bench for part of the seating helps to eliminate crowding and give a place for the grandkids to sit that can handle sticky hands. Custom designed dining chairs in a heavy duty velvet add to the luxurious feeling of the room and can be used in the adjacent Great Room for additional seating. A heavy dark iron chandelier was replaced with the lovely fixture that was hanging in another room; it's pale tones perfect for the new scheme. The window seat cushions were updated in a serviceable ostrich print taupe vinyl enhanced by rich cut velvet brocade and metallic woven pillows, making it a perfect place to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The owner of this kitchen is a chef and holds cooking classes often. The large granite island provides plenty of viewing area for her students while allowing her to move around the space freely. The lowered Carrera marble counter-top is perfect for prep work and is flanked by refrigerator and freezer drawers for the ultimate in convenience. A full-size refrigerator is hidden behind the pantry doors.

Asian influenced shoji screen tastefully conceals the laundry facilities. This one bedroom condo ingeniously sleeps five; the custom designed art wall – featuring an image of rock legend Kurt Cobain – transforms into a double bed, additional shelves and a single bed! With a nod to Hollywood glamour, the master bath is pure luxury marble tile, waterfall sink effect and Planeo cabinetry in a white lacquer.
