This lovely old red brick wall was too good to waste so iron pot holders were sourced and now carry clay pots with a range of useful herbs, just a step from the kitchen door.

A dark backyard was given a new life with dramatic additions of built in planting beds, custom cut salvaged pavers, green screen trellis and a ton of charm. The reclaimed barn doors add a focal point to the east wall while the custom built two-tier planting system allows vines to fill this garden which spans two floors of the client's home.

The sliding wall of glass separates the kitchen from the outdoor deck. The doors and screens pocket back to one panel creating an impromptu room 3 seasons of the year with room for hanging plants and an herb garden that runs the length of the square cedar deck. Photo: Elizabeth Lippman

This space truly allowed us to create a luxurious walk in closet with a boutique feel. The room has plenty of volume with the vaulted ceiling and terrific lighting. The vanity area is not only beautiful but very functional was well. Bella Systems

The centerpiece and focal point to this tiny home living room is the grand circular-shaped window which is actually two half-moon windows jointed together where the mango woof bartop is placed. This acts as a work and dining space. Hanging plants elevate the eye and draw it upward to the high ceilings. Colors are kept clean and bright to expand the space. The loveseat folds out into a sleeper and the ottoman/bench lifts to offer more storage. The round rug mirrors the window adding consistency. This tropical modern coastal Tiny Home is built on a trailer and is 8x24x14 feet. The blue exterior paint color is called cabana blue. The large circular window is quite the statement focal point for this how adding a ton of curb appeal. The round window is actually two round half-moon windows stuck together to form a circle. There is an indoor bar between the two windows to make the space more interactive and useful- important in a tiny home. There is also another interactive pass-through bar window on the deck leading to the kitchen making it essentially a wet bar. This window is mirrored with a second on the other side of the kitchen and the are actually repurposed french doors turned sideways. Even the front door is glass allowing for the maximum amount of light to brighten up this tiny home and make it feel spacious and open. This tiny home features a unique architectural design with curved ceiling beams and roofing, high vaulted ceilings, a tiled in shower with a skylight that points out over the tongue of the trailer saving space in the bathroom, and of course, the large bump-out circle window and awning window that provides dining spaces.

Bathrooms are great spaces for plants as they are often the most humid rooms in a home, making watering a less frequent requirement.

The Mid Century Modern inspired York Street Residence is located in the semi-urban neighborhood of Denver Colorado's Washington Park. Efficient use of space and strong outdoor connections were controlling factors in this design and build project by West Standard. Integration of indoor and outdoor living areas, as well as separation of public and private spaces was accomplished by designing the home around a central courtyard. Bordered by both kitchen and living area, the 450sf courtyard blends indoor and outdoor space through a pair of 15' folding doors. The Energy Star rated home is clad in split-face block and fiber cement board at the front with the remainder clad in Colorado Beetle Kill Pine. Xeriscape landscaping was selected to complement the homes minimalist design and promote sustainability. The landscape design features indigenous low-maintenance plants that require no irrigation. The design also incorporates artificial turf in the courtyard and backyard. Photo Credit: John Payne, johnpaynestudios.com

Surrounded by 30 year old trees, the homeowners were looking for an organic, modern, low maintenance finish to their outdoor environment. Utilizing the pre-existing mature apple tree in the backyard VisionScapes developed a tranquil retreat that extended the sq.ft of the home through a series of terraced concrete and wood decks. Pathways and patio systems were locally sourced from a quarry on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. Photo credit: Jamen Rhodes
