With sun pouring in through the high light windows over the free form living, there's something so comfortable about sitting in a room with nothing but a gentle breeze passing through. Originally built in 1902 for a local judge, this is one of the oldest houses in Seattle’s Denny Blaine neighborhood. When our clients purchased it, the house had suffered from years of deferred maintenance. Our challenge was to transform an awkward and outdated floor plan into one that flowed smoothly in support of the owner’s lifestyle, while bringing clarify and enhanced detail to what was an eclectic architectural composition. Existing windows were restored and new ones carefully scaled to harmonize with the originals; new finishes and systems were installed throughout. On the east side of the house, new porches now connect the main rooms to the steep site and provide outdoor living spaces overlooking Lake Washington.

A former kitchen with a staggered sight line, tiled countertop, and brass trim gains a fresh perspective with small updates. The cabinetry was in excellent shape, so the kitchen was largely re-purposed with all the original cabinetry intact and the same footprint used. The wish list included extra storage and with a vaulted ceiling, the obvious choice was to gain additional storage in height. As the original cabinets were no longer being manufactured, glass front uppers were chosen and painted to match. With the addition of new side panels and crown moulding, the new uppers cabinets blend seamlessly in place. The pantry walls were also painted to match the cabinetry to give it the appearance of a built-in. New countertops in black Caesarstone, marble backsplash, Blanco sink, brushed nickel knobs, and kitchen faucet gives this kitchen a fresh updated look! Photo Credit: Zoon Media
