This home is a cutting edge design from floor to ceiling. The open trusses and gorgeous wood tones fill the home with light and warmth, especially since everything in the home is reflecting off the gorgeous black polished concrete floor. As a material for use in the home, concrete is top notch. As the longest lasting flooring solution available concrete’s durability can’t be beaten. It’s cost effective, gorgeous, long lasting and let’s not forget the possibility of ambient heat! There is truly nothing like the feeling of a heated bathroom floor warm against your socks in the morning. Good design is easy to come by, but great design requires a whole package, bigger picture mentality. The Cabin on Lake Wentachee is definitely the whole package from top to bottom. Previously renovated with a two-story addition in the 80’s, the home’s square footage had been increased, but the current homeowners struggled to integrate the old with the new. An oversized fireplace and awkward jogged walls added to the challenges on the main floor, along with dated finishes. While on the second floor, a poorly configured layout was not functional for this expanding family. From the front entrance, we can see the fireplace was removed between the living room and dining rooms, creating greater sight lines and allowing for more traditional archways between rooms. At the back of the home, we created a new mudroom area, and updated the kitchen with custom two-tone millwork, countertops and finishes. These main floor changes work together to create a home more reflective of the homeowners’ tastes. On the second floor, the master suite was relocated and now features a beautiful custom ensuite, walk-in closet and convenient adjacency to the new laundry room. Gordon King Photography

A detached Edwardian villa set over three storeys, with the master suite on the top floor, four bedrooms (one en-suite) and family bathroom on the first floor and a sitting room, snug, cloakroom, utility, hall and kitchen-diner leading to the garden on the ground level. With their children grown up and pursuing further education, the owners of this property wanted to turn their home into a sophisticated space the whole family could enjoy. Although generously sized, it was a typical period property with a warren of dark rooms that didn’t suit modern life. The garden was awkward to access and some rooms rarely used. As avid foodies and cooks, the family wanted an open kitchen-dining area where the could entertain their friends, with plentiful storage and a connection to the garden. Our design team reconfigured the ground floor and added a small rear and side extension to open the space for a huge kitchen and dining area, with a bank of Crittall windows leading to the garden (redesigned by Ruth Willmott). Ultra-marine blue became the starting point for the kitchen and ground floor design – this fresh hue extends to the garden to unite indoors and outdoors. Bespoke cabinetry designed by HUX London provides ample storage, and on one section beautiful fluted glass panels hide a TV. The cabinetry is complemented by a spectacular book-matched marble splash-back, and timber, parquet flooring, which extends throughout the ground floor. The open kitchen area incorporates a glamorous dining table by Marcel Wanders, which the family use every day. Now a snug, this was the darkest room with the least going for it architecturally. A cool and cosy space was created with elegant wall-panelling, a low corner sofa, stylish wall lamps and a wood-burning stove. It’s now ¬the family’s favourite room, as they gather here for movie nights. The formal sitting room is an elegant space where the family plays music. A sumptuous teal sofa, a hand-knotted silk and wool rug and a vibrant abstract artwork bring a fresh feel. This teenager’s bedroom with its taupe palette, luxurious finishes and study area has a grown-up vibe, and leads to a gorgeous marble-clad en-suite bathroom. The couple now have their own dedicated study, with a streamlined double desk and bespoke cabinetry. In the master suite, the sloping ceilings were maximised with bespoke wardrobes by HUX London, while a calming scheme was created with soft, neutral tones and rich textures.

The homeowner felt closed-in with a small entry to the kitchen which blocked off all visual and audio connections to the rest of the first floor. The small and unimportant entry to the kitchen created a bottleneck of circulation between rooms. Our goal was to create an open connection between 1st floor rooms, make the kitchen a focal point and improve general circulation. We removed the major wall between the kitchen & dining room to open up the site lines and expose the full extent of the first floor. We created a new cased opening that framed the kitchen and made the rear Palladian style windows a focal point. White cabinetry was used to keep the kitchen bright and a sharp contrast against the wood floors and exposed brick. We painted the exposed wood beams white to highlight the hand-hewn character. The open kitchen has created a social connection throughout the entire first floor. The communal effect brings this family of four closer together for all occasions. The island table has become the hearth where the family begins and ends there day. It's the perfect room for breaking bread in the most casual and communal way.

In 2008 an extension was added to this small country home thus allowing the clients to redesign the main floor with a larger master suite, housing a separate vanity, and a bathroom filled with technology, elegance and luxury. Although the existing space was acceptable, it did not reflect the charismatic character of the clients, and lacked breathing space. By borrowing the ineffective space from their existing “entrance court” and removing all closets thus permitting for a private space to accommodate a large vanity with Jack and Jill sinks, a separate bathroom area housing a deep sculptural tub with air massage and hydrotherapy combination, set in a perfect symmetrical fashion to allow the beautiful views of the outdoor landscape, a thin 30” LCD TV, and incorporating a large niche wall for artful accessories and spa products, as well as a private entrance to the large well organized dressing room with a make-up counter. A peaceful, elegant yet highly functional on-suite was created by this young couple’s dream of having a contemporary hotel chic palette inspired by their travels in Paris. Using the classic black and white color combination, a touch of glam, the warm natural color of cherry wood and the technology and innovation brought this retreat to a new level of relaxation. CLIENTS NEEDS Better flow, Space to blend with surrounding open area – yet still have a “wow effect” Create more organized and functional storage and take in consideration client’s mobility handicap. A large shower, an elongated tall boy toilette ,a bidet, a TV, a deep bathtub and a space to incorporate art. Designate an area to house a vanity with 2 sinks, separate from toilette and bathing area. OBJECTIVES Remove existing surrounding walls and closets, incorporated same flooring material throughout adding texture and pattern to blend with each surrounding areas. Use contrasting elements, but control with tone on tone textured materials such as wall tile. Use warm natural materials such as; solid cherry shaker style pocket doors. Enhance architectural details. Plan for custom storage using ergonomics solutions for easy access. Increase storage at entry to house all winter and summer apparel yet leave space for guest belongings. Create a fully organized and functional dressing room. Design the bathroom using a large shower but taking in consideration client’s height differences, incorporate client’s flair for modern technology yet keeping with architectural bones of existing country home design. Create a separate room that fits the desired hotel chic design and add classic contemporary glam without being trendy. DESIGN SOLUTIONS By removing most walls and re-dividing the space to fit the client’s needs, this improves the traffic flow and beautifies the line of sight. A feature wall using rich materials such as white carrara marble basket weave pattern on wall and a practical bench platform made out of Staron-pebble frost, back-lit with a well concealed LED strip light. The glow of two warm white spot lights, highlight the rich marble wall and ties this luxuriant practical element inviting guests to the enticing journey of the on-suite. Incorporate pot-lights in ceiling for general lighting. Add crystal chandeliers as focal point in the vanity area and bathroom to create balance and symmetry within the space. Highlight areas such as wall niches, vanity counter and feature wall sections. Blend architectural elements with a cool white LED strip lighting for decorative-mood accents. Integrate a large seamless shower so as to not overpower the main attraction of the bathroom, insert a shower head tower with adjustable shower heads, The addition of a state of the art electronic bidet seat fitted on to an elongated tall boy toilette. Special features of this bidet include; heated seat, gentle washing ,cleaning and drying functions, which not only looks great but is more functional than your average bidet that takes up too much valuable space. SPECIAL FEATURES The contrasting materials using classic black and white elements and the use of warm tone materials such as natural cherry for the pocket doors is the key element to the space, thus balances the light colors and creates a richness in the area. The feature wall elements with its richness and textures ties in the surrounding spaces and welcomes the individual into the space . The aesthetically pleasing bidet seat is not only practical but comforting as well. The Parisian Philippe Starck Baccarat inspired bathroom has it’s many charms and elegance as well as it’s form and function. Loads of storage neatly concealed in the design space without appearing too dominant yet is the aspect of the success of this design and it’s practicality. An abundance of living space is only part of the appeal of this traditional French county home. Strong architectural elements and a lavish interior design, including cathedral-arched beamed ceilings, hand-scraped and French bleed-edged walnut floors, faux finished ceilings, and custom tile inlays add to the home's charm. This home features heated floors in the basement, a mirrored flat screen television in the kitchen/family room, an expansive master closet, and a large laundry/crafts room with Romeo & Juliet balcony to the front yard. The gourmet kitchen features a custom range hood in limestone, inspired by Romanesque architecture, a custom panel French armoire refrigerator, and a 12 foot antiqued granite island. Every child needs his or her personal space, offered via a large secret kids room and a hidden passageway between the kids' bedrooms. A 1,000 square foot concrete sport court under the garage creates a fun environment for staying active year-round. The fun continues in the sunken media area featuring a game room, 110-inch screen, and 14-foot granite bar. Level One: Our goal was to create harmony of colors and finishes inside and outside the home. The home is contemporary; yet particular finishes and fixtures hint at tradition, especially in the wine cave. The earthy flagstone floor flows into the room from the entry foyer. Walls clad in mountain ash stone add warmth. So does the barrel ceiling in quarter sawn and rift American white oak with natural stain. Its yellow-brown tones bring out the variances of ochers and browns in the stone. To maintain a contemporary feeling, tongue & grove ceiling planks are narrow width and closely set. The minimal wine rack has a diamond pattern that repeats the floor pattern. The wine barrel table and stools are made from recycled oak wine barrels. Their circular shapes repeat the room’s ceiling. Metal hardware on barrel table and stools echo the lighting above, and both fuse industrial and traditional styling, much like the overall room design does. Photograph © Darren Edwards, San Diego

Modern - Interior Design projects by J Design Group Miami. http://www.JDesignGroup.com JW Magazine publishes a client’s luxury waterfront condo in Miami and she states: WHEN JENNIFER CORREDOR OF THE J Design Group designed this 2- bedroom, 2½-bath, waterfront condo in Miami, her biggest challenge was to add color and create a dining area out of a small but charming space. The Coral Gables-based designer had never met the couple when they hired her earlier this year to transform their 15thfloor, 2000-square-foot vacation home into a modern, minimalist stunner with splashy sub-tropical colors. The globe-trotting, Barcelona-based executive and his engineer wife had seen Corredor’s work on the Internet and were blown away by her use of art, color and clean design to create a livable environment. They learned through continuous telephone conversations that the designer understood how to utilize the beauty of Miami and its dazzling waterfront while keeping the home spare, lean and bright. So they hired her at the end of January to work her magic on their new American home “This was a fascinating project that moved at lightning speed,” says Corredor, a native of Jamaica. “The wife is Colombian and the husband is Canadian. They live in Spain with their two children, and basically hired me by phone to furnish their condo.But I had changes in mind to help them enjoy Miami. And they agreed.” For example, Corredor thought the powder room needed to be dressed up, so she changed the doors to become modern and warm with clean lines. She also ordered a special green glass treatment that she designed and had installed by K&G. She added a green frosted glass pedestal sink and matching green sun fixture on the wall. For the den/guest room, she added a glass partition and worked to transform a dark and somber space into a playful palette of bold color. “I added a red wall in geometric design and a frosted door outlined with exotic wood,” she says. “I used furnishings to make the den lively, including a modern carpet from Sweden, and I added punches of color.” For the difficult dining area, she incorporated the table into an island junction off of the kitchen, adding a clever vignette that is both functional and fashionable. The dining table was custom designed, produced and installed by the Miami Wall Unit Group, a company that knows how to incorporate furniture into tight spaces. “The island is used for dining and doing work,” the designer says. “The family can eat at the table, and for other purposes that they choose, it also becomes a standard island. This is a vacation home, so the family doesn’t cook much. But they will spend more time here now that the design is complete.” Corredor found just the right places in the kitchen to add color. The backspash shines in aqua glass emulating tones from the ocean, and the vivid green bar stools which double as dining chairs by Icon Furniture blend with the earth tones of the cabinets, bases and countertops as well as the stainless steel appliances. Bold greens in the floral art work hanging on the wall are intended to capture the purity of Miami and play off of the color of the bar stools. The contemporary living room/family room is another brilliant use of color on white, which again, started as a virtual blank palette. With great floor-to-ceiling window/door views of Biscayne Bay leading to Key Biscayne, the designer had to decide what colors would work with the outside sneaking in via a spacious balcony. So she found a bold orange contemporary painting to hang above the white sofa made of versatile Alcantara fabric from KMP Furniture. She picked a splashy orange and white throw rug to go over the Opus Stone floors. The orange painting brings out the orange in the rug, adding understated zip to the room. Atop the rug is an imported tempered glass coffee table curved underneath for magazines. White swivel chairs round out the vignette. She designed a green wall as the backdrop to the Samsung LED7000 TV and used cable lighting and sconces to complete the ambience in this room. The outdoor colors work well with the great water views visible through the window/doors. Similarly, the master bedroom has beautiful bay views with the blue of the water and sky dominating a full side of the room from window/doors leading to the balcony. The room has a hushed silence in pure white repeated by the low, modern, king-sized bed appointed in white with a beige pillow. Above is a rectangular framed painting absent of bright color but for yellow. To perk up the room and accentuate the yellow, Corredor added a red swivel chair, which plays off of the hanging pendant lamps in red glass. “We are in Miami and with an all-white apartment, I had to bring back warmth and color,” she laughs. “Besides, the clients wanted something different from what they have in Barcelona. I made it refreshing and revitalizing.” The children’s room also has the water views and features a pair of Trundle beds with white side tables and lamps with glass shades on pedestals from WestElm. The walls are off white so the designer added a sassy green stripe to jazz it up. “This room is different from what you would expect,” says Corredor. “I wanted the stripe across the wall to add both color and design to the all-white room. People like color, and I love to integrate it into these wonderful water views.” She went for more outdoor colors on the balcony that wraps around the condo. Green bean bag chairs surround a modern resin coffee table with stained glass legs, continuing on the outside what she had accomplished inside. “We did quite a bit in a short amount of time, and it all blends to showcase the beauty of the water,” she says. It’s no secret that Corredor loves her work. To recreate such a bland space into a spectacular contemporary condo in less than a year is quite a task. But the clients gave her free reign to do her thing, and they have no regrets. “I feel exhilarated when I look at the finished product,” says Corredor. “I do every project with heart. But I feel especially proud of this one and am pleased with the materials we selected. In the end, it is all about the client’s happiness. Amaryllis is almost beyond description; the entire back of the home opens seamlessly to a gigantic covered entertainment lanai and can only be described as a visual testament to the indoor/outdoor aesthetic which is commonly a part of our designs. This home includes four bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms. Additional features include a theatre room, a separate private spa room near the swimming pool, a very large open kitchen, family room, and dining spaces that coupled with a huge master suite with adjacent flex space. The bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs flank a large entertaining space which seamlessly flows out to the second floor lounge balcony terrace. Outdoor entertaining will not be a problem in this home since almost every room on the first floor opens to the lanai and swimming pool. 4,516 square feet of air conditioned space is enveloped in the total square footage of 6,417 under roof area.

The sea glass guest suite is the third of the guest suites in the third floor. Brunschwig & Fils draperies and custom bedding accents feature a classic sea shell and coral fabric that is absolutely breathtaking. The beautiful colors in the inspiration fabric were used to color the walls and the coral accents in the trey ceiling. Large picture windows look out onto the Naples Gulf and sliding glass doors with custom window draperies and sheers open to a private balcony looking onto agent tree sized Sea Grapes.
