“When a doctor friend approached us to design the apartment he shared with his wife and their two kids, the underlining requirement was that the home should echo calmness and be a place they could relax in at the end of a stressful day,” recall Vishal Shah and Vishal Desai, co-founders and principal architects of Aangan Architects, who, along with Sagar Bhatt of Samhitha Design Studio, were jointly enlisted for the redesign. The Aangan Architects project team also included architects Niti Shah and Khyati Dani.

Curving red-brick walls and angular vanilla ones offset each other in profile and palette in the living room. Arched forms, in the shape of ingresses and insets, punctuate the walls. The furnishings, dominated by shades of blue, provide a cooling counterbalance to the bold shell.
“We kept the original Italian marble floor, while adding an inlay of brown sandstone to mark out a circulation path,” says Desai.

The dining room, located next to the living area, echoes its palette. The solid wood table and chairs are backgrounded by an arched brick backdrop that serves as a gateway to the private spaces.
