Rooms for kids are the most interesting to decorate – there are no rights and wrongs and you can really let the creative juices flow. Here, we list 15 imaginative themes that make for stimulating and colourful bedrooms, filled with innovative features and fun ideas.
Walker Home Design
1. Theme: Star Wars
Firm: Walker Home Design
A Star Wars themed kid’s room features a pod racer style bed, a rock climbing wall and a hidden loft (not seen). You can practically espy R2D2 peeking around the doorway.

Staprans Design
2. Theme: Planes
Firm: Staprans Design
A little aviation enthusiast sleeps under a painted blue sky amidst planes taking off and landing. An extra-large world map on the wall would be a great addition to the budding pilot’s room.
Kristin Ashley Interiors
3. Theme: Princess
Firm: Kristin Ashley Interiors
A princess theme could not be better defined than with a pink-and-gold scheme. Gold accents in the bed frame and wall paper bring the requisite royal vibe, while canopied chairs in blush-pink upholstery complete the regal look.

4. Theme: Building blocks
The ubiquitous Lego is given a larger-than-life makeover in this bedroom, right from the building-blocks look-alike cabinets to the cushions.
Racheta Interiors Pvt Limited
5. Theme: Cars
Firm: Racheta Interiors
Boys and their toys could be best exemplified by this child’s bedroom replete with a car bed and ample show space for his car models.
CHIC Redesign
6. Theme: Pink
Every little girl’s dream bedroom would be something like this at some point in their young lives - an all-pink palette, a dainty ottoman upholstered in pink satin to hold her dolls, customised clothes pegs low enough for her to reach and a castle to escape to in her dreams.
B&Q Plc
7. Theme: Superheroes
Firm: B&Q Plc
Marvel Comics fans will love this – a room that features every superhero in the pantheon of the series. The wallpaper, a collage and even the bed linen are an ode to the popular heroes, giving the room an animated and colourful vibe.
Space Coast Construction
8. Theme: Solar system
Firm: Space Coast Construction
The solar system inspired kid’s room is filled with hand-painted planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and other exciting objects suspended from a star-spangled ceiling with a golden sun in the centre. Bed linen with a similar print completes the theme.

Our Town Plans
9. Theme: Nautical
Firm: Our Town Plans
This room recreates a ship’s cabin, starting from the bunk-style bed and sliding door to small touches like the lifebuoy and oar. The sloped roof over the bed aids the impression of a snug cabin, and the blue-and-white nautical colours add authenticity to the room.

Duckworth Interiors
10. Theme: Under the sea
Firm: Duckworth Interiors
The room gives the impression of being submerged in the sea, thanks to the ocean-wonderland wallpaper and blue walls. The recessed ceiling, also painted in blue, accentuates the undersea vibe.
Thinkterior LLC
11. Theme: Activity park
Firm: Thinkterior Studio
The main theme for this room is an active, physical and personalised experience for a growing boy, which was achieved through the use of bold colours and industrial materials. The ladder, a rope to slither up and down, and the bridge-like structure extending from the elevated bed will keep a boy and his pals occupied for hours.
CHIC Redesign
12. Theme: The African wild
Firm: CHIC Redesign
The African savannah is recreated in this bedroom with striking wallpaper, look-alike dried grass and a flickering torch The felt canopy with fairy lights above the bed creates a cosy ‘under the tree’ experience. Hakuna matata!

Dostie Homes
13. Theme: Science
Firm: Dostie Homes
A blue-and-grey palette exudes a smart, no-nonsense air in this room of a little scientist-in-the-making, whose only interests would be chemistry, physics and biology. There are formulae and atomic structures priinted on the walls or pillows; even the framed pictures are science related. A 3D physics model and a mocroscope complete the lab-like bedroom.
14. Theme: Swimming pool
Mosaic pool tiles in shades of grey and blue – and below them a blue-painted wall to suggest 4-feet-deep water – turn this kid’s room into a veritable swimming pool, complete with a ‘No Diving’ sign, pool noodles in a basket and a duvet cover that tricks the eye with its water-ripple chevron print.
KYZLINK ARCHITECTS
15. Theme: Digital
Firm: Kyzlynk Architects
In a digital age, what could be more apt than a kid’s room that transposes cellphone screen icons onto the cabinets of a study area.
