Depending on how big or small your abode is, the hallway, atrium, staircase landing, courtyards, the corner passages – or what can be referred to as the foyer in layman’s terms – can make a big impact. It can be a medium to not just highlight the overall theme of your home but also leave a lasting impact on the guests. We round up a few interesting spaces that are bursting with decor ideas for foyers.
Moriq
This space, designed by Moriq Interiors & Design Consultants exudes drama with the atrium recreating an oasis, complete with a skylight that floods the space with natural light. The pool of water and the plants give a sense of being outdoors.
Modo Designs
The Ahmedabad project by Modo Designs clearly connects the outdoors to the indoors with the bay windows and creates a fluid hallway design that ties numerous materials together, from the unfinished concrete ceiling, the semi-finished Kota stone walls and the Italian marble flooring to the woodwork and the beautiful display of artefacts and murals on the walls.

Mansi Desai
For this Mahabaleshwar home, the stunning feature wall clad in grey lava stone becomes the backdrop for the free-standing spiral wooden staircase’s landing area. The brass pendant lights with cutwork add an aesthetic touch while the recessed lights under each tread are both functional and dramatic. Interior designer Mansi Desai uses illumination to create an interplay of light and shadow in this area.

The Buddha statue and the foliage at the foot of the stairs create a sense of tranquility. The light fixtures and the wooden flooring complete the vignette.

Think of designing a foyer as designing a gallery to display artworks or artefacts. You can line the walls with paintings or create a recessed cove to display souvenirs and relics. Here, the chairs, the pottery, the sculptures, all narrate a tale of an era gone by.

For foyer designs for apartments, reserving the nook of the entryway to display an assortment of wall mirrors, a table and corner chairs gives the small bay a personality of its own. That aside, the marble walls here add a luxurious touch.

Tip: A foyer mirror can make a small passage look bigger.
Dipen Gada and Associates
The semi open foyer of this Vadodara home, designed by Dipen Gada and Associates, gives a peek into the living room. The entrance sets the mood with rustic printed tiles, colourful railings and modern light fixtures. A juxtaposition of modern and traditional techniques is evident in the designing of this space.

Fadd Studio
Taking a leaf out of Georgian mansions, Farah Ahmed and Dhaval Shellugar of Fadd Studio have installed a colossal arched mirror-paned faux window in this double-height foyer, creating a stunning entrance. The long white curtains allow ample light to stream in, ensuring a bright but a soft interior. The three-level Bangalore villa is fit for a king, or so it seems from the entrance.

Khosla Associates
This home, by Khosla Associates, is designed to make the most of nature. The louvres set up in the passageway bring an indoor-outdoor connection. The screen made of curved timber louvres gives one a glimpse of the pool of water outside. Also, the floor clad in grey granite stone and the ceiling covered with cement create a distraction-free zone to bring all the attention to the louvres and the pool outside.
Moriq
Here is a passage area design by Moriq Interiors & Design Consultants – the open-plan space is visually demarcated with a feature wall with multi-patterned, multicoloured Spanish tiles that extend from the walls on to the floor to separate the seating zone. The busy patterns are offset by a bold canary-yellow table and clean-lined chairs.
Shabnam Gupta
The entrance to this home, designed by Shabnam Gupta of The Orange Lane, had a challenge to be dealt with. This pillar, which stuck out like a sore thumb, was smartly incorporated in her design. In fact, it became the focal point, with the sleek round green seating and the wooden angel wings, which gave the foyer a well-put-together look.
Purple Backyard
Kumpal Vaid of Purple Backyard has designed a sleek, minimalist Mumbai suburban apartment and the beige-white foyer entrance design gives a glimpse of what lies further inside. The small foyer looks clean, smart and minimal. With few distractions around the space, the entrance makes a statement with beige mesh on the door, a giant flower vase and a small patio chair .
