We have built many of these pools! the water does go over the edge. It is then captured in a basin on the other side. Water in the basin is then recirculated back into the pool usually with a different water circulation system than the pool's filtration system.. The size of the pump needed is determined by the estimated gallons per minute (gpm) of water going over the edge. The gpm can vary due to the length of the edge. When the basin pump is on the water flows over. Then the pump is off the water remains in the pool. Attached are photos of an edge pump on and off on the same pool.
