You can use a glass sliding door concept with beautiful film on it...

I was thinking of segments of stained glass separated by stone clad pillars and no door... Just a curtain.. Wat do you think.. Thanks for your opinion :)

Wow ! This a great place. However, the partition is taking away all the charm from this lovely place. Are you trying to replicate that partition ? meaning will the pillars be of 7-8 ft high?

I think Mr Chippan has made a great suggestion. It may be a costly built but will look really good on this.

BTW what are the dimensions of this room, specially height.

Hey.. The dimensions are 36 by 32 feet without the partition and the height is around 25 feet in the center I think... Right now I only want to change the partition and the flooring later on... Thanks :)

This is a great space already spoilt by the temp partition as i am sure you agree. We would have do something special or better not do anything. At the same time i would think that anything we do should be flexible and reusable if in future you decide you need to remove the divider. To match the rustic ceiling I guess a sliding barn room divider on wheels mounted on a steel I beam will add character and flexibility.

it is such a gorgeous space. i just feel that the space has such an old world charm to it with high sloping roof that glass and cladding might be a little out place. a gypsum partition with the same finish as the wall or stucco finish might blend in better. n i think would be less expensive too.

if you dont mind i'd like to make some other suggestions as well:

* if possible change the sofa set. if not i think a change of upholstery would do the room good. it should be something lighter. with one of the sofas in a different upholstery as an accent piece. something floral. will give it a nice tropical feel to go with the goan looking roof.

* also the arched shelf on the left in the picture could also have textured effect again in a slightly lighter shade. or maybe similar to the partition that you're going to make.

* you seem to have many frames in the room. why dont you divide them equally on both sides of the shelf and in a random collage layout.

* i would also suggest keeping some indoor plants. its quite a popular trend these days.

* n i think wooden coffee tables are better. but thats not ob

Hey thanks for such a detailed reply :). Yes, it's a 100 year old bungalow and I want to maintain an antique look and not design it as a modern apartment.

I did keep some plants before but they didn't survive :( I think I'm choosing the wrong plants.

Yes, you are right about the frames needing to be set up properly. I'll work on that.

Can't I have a glass partition and still maintain an antique feel?? My plan was to choose a partition first and then decide the flooring that would go with the new partition.

I don't want to add more things to the room as it already has a lot and I want it to look open and spacious.

I'll surely think about changing the upholstery but I'm still not convinced about what colors I should use.

I would also like to know your opinion regarding the curtains of possible.

Yes there are some plants that are better suited to indoor environment here's a guide for the same:

but no plant can survive indoors indefinitely. you will need to to keep rotating them weekly or every 2 weeks.

are you partial towards glass then sure it can be used. maybe paneled glass partition or a stained one like you mentioned earlier like these:

The room does seem a little cluttered, which maybe because of the many different styles and no of things too. I think that can be helped by lightening the space a little and maybe bringing in a bit similarity specially the side tables and coffee tables .

i have suggested the sofa upholstery color in the previous comment. shades of sage in velvet. if not then light beige in linen is also a good option.

some bright colored cushions and an accent piece of sofa or some bright table cloth might also be good.

as for curtains that will depend on the sofa upholstery you use.

If you keep the same upholstery i think a nice pastel color would look better. something light. you should also choose light cushions and carpet for these sofas. and if you keep the same sofas i think you should atleast change some of the tables.

I would also suggest bringing in a little more light to the room if possible.
