Can I mix cellular & roller shades

I have 3 large (picture like) windows on the front of the house. Have always dealt with wood blinds in other homes. I am putting in cellular shades on front downstairs windows. Am not interested in wood blinds as I feel that they would take away from picture like windows. And roller shades will probably be to flimsy for such large windows. There are 3 windows across the front of the second floor 2 of which are dormer windows that open to the great room so no blinds in those. The 3rd is a bonus room. Can I use a roller shade in this window even tho I'm using cellular below? Also have another 2nd floor window that is prominent as you drive up to the house that I'd like to use a roller shade in (and there is a downstairs window below it that I will use a cellular shade in). Can I mix cellular & roller shades or is to much of a mish mash of things in how the front of the house looks as far as window treatments go?

Considering that your house has a different texture on the second floor (as opposed to the brick on the bottom), staying consistent with cellular shades might help tie it together. Although, depending on your color choices, it may not be too noticeable. What's most important is picking the type of window treatment most functional for the room. So, if you're worried about the "mish mash," using a solid color of roller shades is a neutral choice and wouldn't be distracting. It could even help with setting the lovely arched window upstairs you mentioned apart from the others.

Since all options are variations on shades, I vote all should match to improve the exterior cohesiveness. If you are looking at shades for black out purposes, visit your local big box hardware store of choice, they have lots of cellular options to select from including a dual opaque/translucent/vision clear depending on how you maneuver the sliding stack. You want consistent color finish on the exterior, without question. often the cellular can be one finish on the interior and a different color/finish on the window side facing exterior.

HI -- I have the very same bay windows . I put Hunter Douglas wood blinds fitted to the windows and have hanging drape side panels on the side walls on each side of the bay . So nothing hanging in the middle . I have the panels ( 95 inch length ) hung from the full wall height (8 ft.) on a rod that goes across the width of the whole wall. Or you could just have the rod the with of each side wall ,having a finial on the interior ends . So that would be ,two small rods with 2 wall cup brackets and two finial ends . I am not a fan of the shutters because of the cost but mostly because they block too much of the light and view . Have the window blinds and the bay interior the same color .

Hi Shubhani. It would help to know more about your taste -- there are no pics in your ideabooks. So all I've done here is play around a bit with an idea. Keya, glad you decided to take the one reader's idea about moving the armoires in front of windows that you don't need and giving the bed a wall of its own! And, yes, you can have Roman shades on one wall and layered drapes on the other. When I had drapes made for my tall sitting room windows/doors, I had them use the same fabric for the Roman shades for the smaller windows on the other wall. For me personally, in these older Indian homes with all the odd nooks and niches in the walls, perhaps it would be more soothing to have a light/med tone paint on the walls that blends with the drapes/blinds for an 'uninterrupted' look, and I would use the same color on ceiling and beams. (but that is just my thought) I would start the process with a large carpet with your favorite colors, then choose your Bedcover & cushions, then your wall paint and fabric for drapes/blinds ..Not certain what style you like, but if you really like a particular Ethnic bedcover fabric, you can always have them stitched into curtains or Roman shades too. Hey Himani, Tieing a room together is not a matter of one item that has all the elements. At present, your room looks well put together. when we are trying to pull a room together, the trick is to use different elements (such as pillow, showpieces, plants, rugs curtains, table lamps etc) which have those elements repeated. For example, the colour and texture of the wallpaper could be repeated on the opposite side with art. The bed and the wardrobes look like a perfect match. Hey There: First of all - roller shades are a very good way to cover large openings as well as panel blinds. For your convenience you can motorize your blinds and if no power is next to your window you opt for battery operating systems that are remote controlled. Up to 5000 circles on a single battery charge is pretty impressive.
