Hi Feimao747, while we can agree that the design for this aspect may not be optimal, but our thought process was to take in an important aesthetics consideration (to be in line with beam thickness to prevent unsightly visual protrusions), as well as to satisfy the owner's brief for more shelf space. Hence, both form and function have been fulfilled in this case. As you can see, the actual depth of the side cabinet is varied at the top to accommodate the full opening of the bathroom window - hence, when the panes are closed, cleaning can still be accessed by front or back. Hope that clarifies.
