Bromeliad (Alcantarea imperialis). This one can take full sun and has soft edges unlike typical Bromeliads with saw-like leaf edges. I believe the one shown is about as big as they get (5'-6' across). They are very popular, but can be expensive at this size. This one would be several hundred dollars. Smaller ones start at about $60. They are not fast growers, nor do they send off babies as fast as other Bromeliads, that is why the larger ones are expensive. There's a newer purple variety. Photos below. One photo is a smaller purple (7 gal. 2 feet across) I just used in a pool side planter.
