A gorgeous master bedroom with plenty of unique features that we wanted to stay true to. The wood paneled ceilings give a beachy feel, which we wanted to accentuate through the color scheme, furniture, and lighting. Soft beiges, off-whites, pale yellows, and blue-grays created the ultimate coastal color palette, promoting a relaxing and tranquil sanctuary. Large built-in cabinets keep the space clean and uncluttered and offer a savvy bit of space for a cozy sitting area, complete with a loveseat and an antique wooden coffee table. Built-in storage continues throughout the room - above and around the bed as well as on the adjacent wall. We were also able to sneak in a built-in desk and slim, seamless bookshelves. The Laurel was a project that required a rigorous lesson in southern architectural vernacular. The site being located in the hot climate of the Carolina shoreline, the client was eager to capture cross breezes and utilize outdoor entertainment spaces. The home was designed with three covered porches, one partially covered courtyard, and one screened porch, all accessed by way of French doors and extra tall double-hung windows. The open main level floor plan centers on common livings spaces, while still leaving room for a luxurious master suite. The upstairs loft includes two individual bed and bath suites, providing ample room for guests. Native materials were used in construction, including a metal roof and local timber.

All white bedroom with a vintage dresser and patterned bed

Our client’s garden was tired and neglected, full of children’s play equipment and a small area of block paving. They were keen to create a garden that provided interesting and varied play opportunities for their two children, whilst still retaining areas that could be enjoyed by the adults. We removed the old garage, and the unattractive conifer hedge in the top corner of the garden. An area has been created for their son to kick his football, and this is framed by various climbing structures that in turn surround the trampoline area. Monkey bars double as a pergola, and in time planting will soften their appearance. A small seating area has been created to capture the evening sun, whilst a generous patio has been built outside the kitchen. This is edged with chunky raised beds, planted with colourful and long-flowering perennials that will attract bees and butterflies throughout the summer. Some of the beds have been set aside for growing vegetables, and my client reports that they have enjoyed a healthy crop of tomatoes and salad leaves this summer! New trees have been planted to provide screening, colour and berries for the birds.

The master bathroom was accentuated with a large & luxurious teak walk-in shower which includes a custom bench by Jonathon Scianna, offering a spa-like feel. The bathtub was replaced to have a chic, elongated tile surround and built-in recessed teak niche. The final touch on the new tub comes from the mini recessed LED lights above, illuminating the area and adding a special feel to the space. We also installed a brand new floating double vanity with trendy wall mount faucets with a teak backsplash and teak framed mirrors, which look lovely against the metallic shimmer of the wall color. Additional features for the master bathroom include a new toilet, new floor, new barn door/mirror with Haffel Hardware, and a large linen closet with adjustable shelves.
