Iron Work, hand forged custom Iron window treatments for Luxury Home in So. Cal
Iron Work, hand forged custom Iron window treatments for Luxury Home in So. Cal

Decorative Iron work, Custom Hand Forged Iron screens were used as window treatment embellishments between the Interior Courtyard and Garage of this luxury Southern California home. Geometric shapes combine to create a subtle yet striking division between the spaces. Installed within the window casings, the screens measure 24" X 48" allowing the viewer a subtly look from room to room while creating a decorative element within the space. When Iron work in a home has traditionally been reserved for Spanish or Tuscan style homes, Interior Designer Rebecca Robeson finds a way to incorporate Iron in a new and fresh way using geometric shapes to transition between rooms. Custom welders followed Rebeccas plans meticulously in order to keep the lines clean and sophisticated for a seamless design element in this home. All staircases and railings in this home share similar linear lines while window embellishments and room divider screens include softer curves to add grace to the geometric shapes. A New Home in the Craftsman Style in Burlingame, California Our design of this large house in Burlingame was inspired by nearby Craftsman style homes. We also designed the swimming pool, pool house and bridges in the back yard. Carefully designed wood brackets and details complement the strong symmetrical form of the exterior. Traditional wood and leaded glass windows, stone masonry and slate tile roofs with copper gutters also contribute to this authentic and timeless design. This rich palette of materials and detailing are continued inside the house with coffered wood ceilings, painted wainscot paneling and trim, custom fireplace surrounds, decorative ironwork railings, and a curved entry stair. We represented our client in sensitive negotiations with neighbors of multiple Planning Commission hearings. The kitchen was featured in the 2006 Burlingame Classic Kitchen Tour.

The clients believed the peninsula footprint was required due to the unique entry points from the hallway leading to the dining room and the foyer. The new island increases storage, counters and a more pleasant flow of traffic from all directions. The biggest challenge was trying to make the structural beam that ran perpendicular to the space work in a new design; it was off center and difficult to balance the cabinetry and functional spaces to work with it. In the end it was decided to increase the budget and invest in moving the header in the ceiling to achieve the best design, esthetically and funcationlly. Specific storage designed to meet the clients requests include: - pocket doors at counter tops for everyday appliances - deep drawers for pots, pans and Tupperware - island includes designated zone for baking supplies - tall and shallow pantry/food storage for easy access near island - pull out spice near cooking - tray dividers for assorted baking pans/sheets, cutting boards and numerous other serving trays - cutlery and knife inserts and built in trash/recycle bins to keep things organized and convenient to use, out of sight - custom design hutch to hold various, yet special dishes and silverware Elements of design chosen to meet the clients wishes include: - painted cabinetry to lighten up the room that lacks windows and give relief/contrast to the expansive wood floors - monochromatic colors throughout give peaceful yet elegant atmosphere o stained island provides interest and warmth with wood, but still unique in having a different stain than the wood floors – this is repeated in the tile mosaic backsplash behind the rangetop - punch of fun color used on hutch for a unique, furniture feel - carefully chosen detailed embellishments like the tile mosaic, valance toe boards, furniture base board around island, and island pendants are traditional details to not only the architecture of the home, but also the client’s furniture and décor. - Paneled refrigerator minimizes the large appliance, help keeping an elegant feel Superior cooking equipment includes a combi-steam oven, convection wall ovens paired with a built-in refrigerator with interior air filtration to better preserve fresh foods. This soft contemporary home was uniquely designed to evoke a coastal design feeling while maintaining a Hill Country style native to its environment. The final design resulted in a beautifully minimalistic, transparent, and inviting home. The light exterior stucco paired with geometric forms and contemporary details such as galvanized brackets, frameless glass and linear railings achieves the precise coastal contemporary look the clients desired. The open floor plan visually connects multiple rooms to each other, creating a seamless flow from the formal living, kitchen and family rooms and ties the upper floor to the lower. This transparent theme even begins at the front door and extends all the way through to the exterior porches and views beyond via large frameless glazing. The overall design is kept basic in form, allowing the architecture to shine through in the detailing. Built by Olympia Homes Interior Design by Joy Kling Photography by Merrick Ales

The original kitchen featured an island that divided the space and was out of scale for the space, the tile and countertops that were dated. Our goal was to create an inviting kitchen for gatherings, and integrate our clients color palette without doing a complete kitchen remodel. We designed a new island with high gloss paint finish in turquoise, added new quartz countertops, subway and sea glass tile, vent hood, light fixtures, farm style sink, faucet and cabinet hardware. The space is now open and offers plenty of space to cook and entertain. Keeping our environment in mind and sustainable design approach, we recycled the original Island and countertops to 2nd Used Seattle.

A young Mexican couple approached us to create a streamline modern and fresh home for their growing family. They expressed a desire for natural textures and finishes such as natural stone and a variety of woods to juxtapose against a clean linear white backdrop. For the kid’s rooms we are staying within the modern and fresh feel of the house while bringing in pops of bright color such as lime green. We are looking to incorporate interactive features such as a chalkboard wall and fun unique kid size furniture. The bathrooms are very linear and play with the concept of planes in the use of materials. They will be a study in contrasting and complementary textures established with tiles from resin inlaid with pebbles to a long porcelain tile that resembles wood grain. This beautiful house is a 5 bedroom home located in Presidential Estates in Aventura, FL.
