This hall 1/2 Bathroom was very outdated and needed an update. We started by tearing out a wall that separated the sink area from the toilet and shower area. We found by doing this would give the bathroom more breathing space. We installed patterned cement tile on the main floor and on the shower floor is a black hex mosaic tile, with white subway tiles wrapping the walls.

the camilleriparismode project and design studio were entrusted to convert and redesign a 200 year old townhouse situated in the heart of naxxar. the clients wished a large kitchen married to different entertainment spaces as a holistic concept on the ground floor. the first floor would have three bedrooms, thus upstairs and downstairs retaining a ‘family’ home feel which was the owners’ primary preconception. camilleriparismode design studio – careful to respect the structure’s characteristics - remodeled the house to give it a volume and ease of movement between rooms. the staircase turns 180 degrees with each bedroom having individual access and in turn connected through a new concrete bridge. a lightweight glass structure, allowing natural light to flow unhindered throughout the entire house, has replaced an entire wall in the central courtyard. architect ruben lautier undertook the challenge to oversee all structural changes. the authentic and original patterned cement tiles were kept, the stone ceilings cleaned and pointed and its timber beams painted in soft subtle matt paints form our zuber collection. bolder tones of colours were applied to the walls. roman blinds of large floral patterned fabric, plush sofas and eclectic one-off pieces of furniture as well as artworks make up the decoration of the ground floor. the master bedroom upstairs and its intricately designed tiles houses an 18th century bed dressed in fine linens form camilleriparismode’s fabric department. the rather grand décor of this room is juxtaposed against the sleek modern ensuite bathroom and a walk-in shower made up of large slab brushed travertine. photography © brian grech

2011 ASID Award Winning Design This 10,000 square foot home was built for a family who prized entertaining and wine, and who wanted a home that would serve them for the rest of their lives. Our goal was to build and furnish a European-inspired home that feels like ‘home,’ accommodates parties with over one hundred guests, and suits the homeowners throughout their lives. We used a variety of stones, millwork, wallpaper, and faux finishes to compliment the large spaces & natural light. We chose furnishings that emphasize clean lines and a traditional style. Throughout the furnishings, we opted for rich finishes & fabrics for a formal appeal. The homes antiqued chandeliers & light-fixtures, along with the repeating hues of red & navy offer a formal tradition. Of the utmost importance was that we create spaces for the homeowners lifestyle: wine & art collecting, entertaining, fitness room & sauna. We placed fine art at sight-lines & points of interest throughout the home, and we create rooms dedicated to the homeowners other interests. These totally hip homeowners love mid-century modern design. Since this dining area is open to the kitchen, we added the silver leaf wallcovering to bring the feeling of the stainless steel appliances into this room. We knew this room will potentially have food and drink disasters, so the Knoll chairs are covered in a very durable and chic chocolate brown metallic vinyl, and we used carpet tiles which can be easily replaced if stained. The custom walnut and chrome table expands to seat 12; we designed the custom sofa at right to be used as a split banquet in such instances. The hand-woven mohair drapery completes the room, and is a warm contrast to the silver leaf wall.

The focal point of the space is both the free standing club foot tub and the shower. The client had the tub custom painted. I designed the shower to accommodate two people with his and her sides. The linen tower was removed to free up space for the new water closet and shower. Each vanity was created to maximize space, so drawers were included in the middle portion of the cabinet. There is porcelain tile from floor to ceiling in the entire space for easy maintenance. Chrome was used as accents throughout the space as seen in the sinks, faucets and other fixtures. A wall of tile in the shower acts a focal point on the opposite end of the room. Photographer: Brio Yiapon

In this 1905 Tudor home, the intent of this design was to take advantage of the classic architecture of the home and incorporate modern conveniences. Located in the Joseph Berry Subdivision in Detroit, this stellar home presented several design challenges. The most difficult challenge to overcome was the 11” slope from one end of the kitchen to the other, caused by 110 years of settling. All new floor joists were installed and the floor by the side door was then recessed down one step. This created a cozy nook when you first enter the kitchen. A tiered ceiling with strategically planned cabinetry heights and crown molding concealed the slope of the walls at the ceiling level. The second challenge in this historic home was the awkward foot print of the kitchen. It’s likely that this kitchen had a butler’s pantry originally. However it was remodeled sometime in the 70’s and all original character was erased. Clever pantry storage was added to an awkward corner creating a space that mimicked the essence of a butler’s pantry, while providing storage desired in kitchens today. Keeping the large footprint of the kitchen presented obstacles with the working triangle; the distance from the sink to the cooktop is several feet. The solution was installation of a pot filler over the cooktop that added convenience and elegance (not sure about this word). Not everything in this project was a challenge; the discovery of a brick chimney hiding behind plaster was a welcome surprise and brought character back honoring the historic charm of this beautiful home. The mudroom runs alongside of the rear patio, linking the kitchen to the original coach house that was on the property. The coach house was converted into a garage and a home theater. The mudroom features ample, easily accessible storage to organize clutter before it has the chance to reach into the rest of the house. Likewise a stacked washer and dryer (which complement those in the main laundry room on the second floor) capture muddy uniforms and the like. Closed cabinets hold additional coat storage, brooms, and cleaning supplies. A frosted glass panel door can close off views to the mudroom from the kitchen.

Built from the ground up on 80 acres outside Dallas, Oregon, this new modern ranch house is a balanced blend of natural and industrial elements. The custom home beautifully combines various materials, unique lines and angles, and attractive finishes throughout. The property owners wanted to create a living space with a strong indoor-outdoor connection. We integrated built-in sky lights, floor-to-ceiling windows and vaulted ceilings to attract ample, natural lighting. The master bathroom is spacious and features an open shower room with soaking tub and natural pebble tiling. There is custom-built cabinetry throughout the home, including extensive closet space, library shelving, and floating side tables in the master bedroom. The home flows easily from one room to the next and features a covered walkway between the garage and house. One of our favorite features in the home is the two-sided fireplace – one side facing the living room and the other facing the outdoor space. In addition to the fireplace, the homeowners can enjoy an outdoor living space including a seating area, in-ground fire pit and soaking tub.
