Here she combined rustic stone and both Montana and Montana Mason rock to create a dry waterfall effect. Sedum, blue fescue clumps, fern, and camas add accents here. The bare soil on the left bottom corner is part of a creek-like effect that has been seeded to water loving wildflowers. The Royal Raindrops multi-trunk flowering crabapples lend an almost forested effect to the entire area.

This property has a wonderful juxtaposition of modern and traditional elements, which are unified by a natural planting scheme. Although the house is traditional, the client desired some contemporary elements, enabling us to introduce rusted steel fences and arbors, black granite for the barbeque counter, and black African slate for the main terrace. An existing brick retaining wall was saved and forms the backdrop for a long fountain with two stone water sources. Almost an acre in size, the property has several destinations. A winding set of steps takes the visitor up the hill to a redwood hot tub, set in a deck amongst walls and stone pillars, overlooking the property. Another winding path takes the visitor to the arbor at the end of the property, furnished with Emu chaises, with relaxing views back to the house, and easy access to the adjacent vegetable garden. This is a very small space so furniture had to be minimal. Sleeping under a bower of flowers that are illuminated by twinkle lights gives this lucky little lady a magical bedtime experience. Her favourite Disney character, Tinkerbell watches over her while she sleeps. Empirical Photographic Arts

In the wide, side return area of this garden we planted a flat top tree to create a courtyard feel. This creates a pretty canopy which is covered in fairy lights at night. We also added a wide thin storage unit with double doors in this area, to provide some easily accessible storage. This was painted in the same dark grey as the fence and gate to help it blend into the background.
