The wall between the dining room and kitchen came down! The wood floors were saved, but new Duraceramic floors were put down in the kitchen. New Baltic Brown granite was installed with a tile backsplash. New Maple cabinets were also installed in a new layout to make more efficient use of the large kitchen.

Before this kitchen was dark and out of date. Although the kitchen had a large window, the green laminate countertops and green flooring absorbed all of the light. The kitchen now features a double wall oven, microwave shelf, gas stove with a stainless hood, dishwasher, and double sink, and built-in soap pump. New rich cabinetry placed around the entire kitchen adds an enormous amount of storage. Several cabinets have organizational features making working in the kitchen much more efficient. 1”x 1” glass mosaic tile backsplash compliments the colors in the Baltic Brown granite countertops. Just behind the kitchen, a small bar for casual dining and entertaining is located in a pass through with a matching granite top. Six adjustable lights are featured on a new track light around the lighted ceiling fan, adding a unique statement in this kitchen remodel.

Nikki's desire to create a space for entertaining was helped along by the introduction of the central island unit. Nikki chose a large island finished in autumn brown granite with a solid walnut grain chopping block to also make the space a practical cooking area. The island also housed a microwave and steam oven adding to its usefulness in the kitchen. There was also the introduction of a large American style fridge-freezer surrounded by elegant larder cupboards in dark walnut.

Rainforest Brown Granite is a stunning, dramatic granite with varying shades of brown and gray. It is quarried in Rajasthan, India. These homeowners wanted a stone that would add an exotic element to their cozy, suburban 60's home. Throughout their home they had Japanese decorations from time spent living there. You can see the influences of the Japanese design aesthetic in the clean simple lines of the kitchen and dark cabinets and shadows. They balanced out the exuberant Rainforest Brown Granite with streamlined cabinetry and appliances. We used angular lines and a quiet half-bullnose edge on the granite to tie the cabinets and granite together. The granite full backsplash is bookmatched, which means the pattern runs across the decks (horizontals) and up the wall. Because Rainforest Brown Granite varies a great deal from month to month and slab to slab, make sure to choose your exact slab before you fabricator cuts it.

This is a Rainforest Brown Granite. We suggested this stone to the homeowner because the rich earth tone and tree-like pattern complement the view from the patio and pool: rolling farm fields and a gorgeous pond. The shape was designed to complement the arches and lines of the patio and exterior of the home.
