The sunken den, off of the foyer, receives abundant light from a bank of windows. This portion of the home was added on in 1968 after the original owners requested more space to accommodate their growing family. Bobbie found the 1950's sofa second-hand for $10, and had it reupholstered. She chose Crypton fabric as a means to save the sofa from the cats' claws, which means that not only will the style remain timeless, but the sofa itself will always look like new. Rustic cabin nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, NC. The cabin is a riff on the Appalachian culture and its architecture. Built as if it rose from the local woods, by local craftsmen with the tradition of seat-of-the-pants resourcefulness. The cabin echoes the Appalachian traditions of small is beautiful, and richness in simplicity. Reclaimed Heart Pine flooring. Reclaimed barn wood wall panelling. Cypress wall panelling with nickel groove. Wormy Maple loft flooring. Exterior door hand crafted by local artisan. Ships ladder constructed from leftover rough-sawn Hemlock rafters. A new double casement window replaced the old smaller window to allow more light into the space. The window is a true simulated divided light window to keep the look and feel of the original style of the house. It was custom made to replicate the existing six over six double hung windows. The window casing is angled to add an architectural detail and allow for more light. In front of it is the farmhouse sink with school house pendent light. Eric Luciano Photographer
