This guest bath has a light and airy feel with an organic element and pop of color. The custom vanity is in a midtown jade aqua-green PPG paint Holy Glen. It provides ample storage while giving contrast to the white and brass elements. A playful use of mixed metal finishes gives the bathroom an up-dated look. The 3 light sconce is gold and black with glass globes that tie the gold cross handle plumbing fixtures and matte black hardware and bathroom accessories together. The quartz countertop has gold veining that adds additional warmth to the space. The acacia wood framed mirror with a natural interior edge gives the bathroom an organic warm feel that carries into the curb-less shower through the use of warn toned river rock. White subway tile in an offset pattern is used on all three walls in the shower and carried over to the vanity backsplash. The shower has a tall niche with quartz shelves providing lots of space for storing shower necessities. The river rock from the shower floor is carried to the back of the niche to add visual interest to the white subway shower wall as well as a black Schluter edge detail. The shower has a frameless glass rolling shower door with matte black hardware to give the this smaller bathroom an open feel and allow the natural light in. There is a gold handheld shower fixture with a cross handle detail that looks amazing against the white subway tile wall. The white Sherwin Williams Snowbound walls are the perfect backdrop to showcase the design elements of the bathroom. Photography by LifeCreated.
A Whole House Transformation

Dave Fox Design Build RemodelersDave Fox Design Build Remodelers
This remodel consisted of a whole house transformation. We took this 3 bedroom dated home and turned it into a 5 bedroom award winning showpiece, all without an addition. By reworking the awkward floor plan and lowering the living room floor to be level with the rest of the house we were able to create additional space within the existing footprint of the home. What was once the small lack-luster master suite, is now 2 kids bedrooms that share a jack and jill bath. The master suite was relocated to the first floor, and the kitchen that was located right at the front door, is now located in the back of the home with great access to the patio overlooking the golf course. In the design stages many details were incorporated in this classic kitchen to give it dimension since the surround cabinets, counters and backsplash were white. Polished nickel plumbing, hardware and custom grilles on feature cabinets along with the island pendants add shine, while finer details such as inset doors, furniture kicks on non-working areas and lofty crown details add a layering effect in the millwork. Surround counters as well as 3" x 6" backsplash tile are Calacutta Gold stone, while island counter surface is walnut. Conveniences include a 60" Wolf range, a 36" Subzero refrigerator and freezer and two farmhouse sinks by Kallista. The kitchen also boasts two dishwashers (one in the island and one to the right of the sink cabinet under the window) and a coffee bar area with a built-in Miele. Photo by Pete Maric.

This remodel of a mid century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940’s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed wooden beams and deep overhangs. The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. The low pitched roofs, open floor plan, and large windows openings connect the house to nature to make the most of its rural setting. Photo by: Nat Rea Photography

Photos: Thome Photography. Floor - is an oak floor painted black with a low-sheen urethane finish. Shower - is a marble shower pan with a pebble finish - there is a hidden trough drain under the shower seat allowing us to eliminate the center drain and enjoy the beauty of the full slab of marble. The glass is a seamless european-style surround and it is held at the top by a basic black plumber's pipe and components giving it it's industrial esthetic. Beams -These were not original beams, we created the look to appear original but they are new wood, sanded, stained and finished to look old. Bathtub - The bathtub is a Kohler Vintage Free Standing tub with a cove-trim base. Tower - The bathroom tower was custom built by an artisan in the region. Countertop - The countertop is a wood stained, hand-hewn walnut with a marine finish (helps with water absorption) and custom cut by fabricator Light Fixtures - These light fixtures were from WaterWorks Walls - The walls are large scale bead boards with a sprayed lacquer conversion varnish which gives it the clean white look

Heritage Wide Plank Wood Flooring Sets the Mood for an Inviting Retreat Country Grade American Black Walnut in 5, 7 and 9 inch wide planks provides a dramatic foundation for this light-filled room. The result is an inviting and comfortable space that both owners can retreat to, whether for morning coffee or an afternoon enjoying the scenery and wildlife along the creek. “The homeowners are thrilled with the wood flooring, and they were such a pleasure to work with” said Ms. Lanieri. “When the wood flooring was installed, this project was still in the early stages. It took the homeowners and the designer time to select the perfect finishing touches. I am beyond impressed with how it turned out. What started as strictly a ‘Man Cave’ has turned into an oasis they can enjoy together.” Heritage Wide Plank Flooring custom mills authentic wide plank wood flooring in widths up to 12 inches and lengths up to 16 feet, in hardwoods, softwoods and reclaimed species. Available exclusively at the designer showrooms of Riverhead Building Supply, and all Riverhead Building Supply locations, in New York and Rhode Island.

Cabin Fever on Cross Lake
Cabin Fever on Cross Lake
Crystal Kitchen + BathCrystal Kitchen + Bath
February and March 2011 Mpls/St. Paul Magazine featured Byron and Janet Richard's kitchen in their Cross Lake retreat designed by JoLynn Johnson. Honorable Mention in Crystal Cabinet Works Design Contest 2011 A vacation home built in 1992 on Cross Lake that was made for entertaining. The problems • Chipped floor tiles • Dated appliances • Inadequate counter space and storage • Poor lighting • Lacking of a wet bar, buffet and desk • Stark design and layout that didn't fit the size of the room Our goal was to create the log cabin feeling the homeowner wanted, not expanding the size of the kitchen, but utilizing the space better. In the redesign, we removed the half wall separating the kitchen and living room and added a third column to make it visually more appealing. We lowered the 16' vaulted ceiling by adding 3 beams allowing us to add recessed lighting. Repositioning some of the appliances and enlarge counter space made room for many cooks in the kitchen, and a place for guests to sit and have conversation with the homeowners while they prepare meals. Key design features and focal points of the kitchen • Keeping the tongue-and-groove pine paneling on the walls, having it sandblasted and stained to match the cabinetry, brings out the woods character. • Balancing the room size we staggered the height of cabinetry reaching to 9' high with an additional 6” crown molding. • A larger island gained storage and also allows for 5 bar stools. • A former closet became the desk. A buffet in the diningroom was added and a 13' wet bar became a room divider between the kitchen and living room. • We added several arched shapes: large arched-top window above the sink, arch valance over the wet bar and the shape of the island. • Wide pine wood floor with square nails • Texture in the 1x1” mosaic tile backsplash Balance of color is seen in the warm rustic cherry cabinets combined with accents of green stained cabinets, granite counter tops combined with cherry wood counter tops, pine wood floors, stone backs on the island and wet bar, 3-bronze metal doors and rust hardware.
