Furniture for Kids: 10 Fun & Imaginative Almirah Designs
Add a playful flair to your kids' bedrooms with these steal-worthy wardrobe designs
Most parents would agree that designing their children’s bedroom can be challenging, what with their constantly changing obsessions and fads. It’s hard enough to keep up with their growing stash of toys, clothes and gadgets, let alone finding an appropriate place to store some of them. This is why I decided to scour through Houzz to find fun, eye-catching almirahs enhanced by splashes of colour or designs that are timeless and would (hopefully) appeal to parents and their wards.

1. A riot of pastels rules this bedroom, thanks to the wall-to-wall cabinet. Against the white walls and ceiling, the wardrobe hues and the artworks, plus the bedspread, all stand out but come together with their shared palette.
2. Now, if only our city skylines were this neat, uniform and colourful! These almirahs make quite an impact in this all-grey room. I like how you can peek into the contents of the cupboard through the tiny windows – an endearing design addition.

3. The map painted on the almirah gives a dynamic quality to this otherwise plain all-white piece. The little aircraft motifs and the car knobs on the unit give a lift to the design.
4. C’mon, who doesn’t love Lego? This wardrobe creates a fully immersive experience through its colours and design.

5. Although most Indian schools do not have a locker system, we’re all familiar with this design thanks to movies and television. This contraption fits so snugly in the corner. Painted white, it has a low visual impact so it doesn’t look bulky and the numbers pasted on it give the unit a lively, back-to-school character.
6. A room perfect for a princess – the pink fairytale theme is splashed over the almirah too, with the large crown motifs painted on it. All furniture in white contrasts well with the pink flooring, walls and ceiling.

7. For a budding graffiti artist – this wardrobe’s paint allows the young dweller to scribble words or art on it, as they please, any time they want. The tall cabinets have a well-sectioned interiors where there are separate spaces to hang clothes, keep shoes and store socks. Also, the white and red combination looks bold and energetic.
8. The jungle theme on the wardrobe changes the energy and mood of this room with grey flooring and soft hues. I also like the tiny cubbies next to the cupboard that neatly hold all toys and stationery.
9. Why should numbers only mean math? This almirah handle with cascading digits keeps the vibe of the room playful, fun and study-friendly.
10. The floor-to-ceiling cabinet in green offers plenty of storage for the two dwellers in this room. The theme of dual shades – yellow and green – comes together well, in a uniform fashion on the wardrobe.
