Our front door opens right into the living room. Please suggest the type of furniture, paints, curtains, wall decor etc. to spruce up my living room.

Let's start from bottom line, what is the budget that you can spare now for the makeover. Comments (6)Hi Nisha, Like the way you have chosen a neutral colour palette keeping in mind the size of your Living room. Would like to share a simple home styling tip: Always slip your carpet below the 2 front legs of the furniture around it. This helps to pull the room together. Your wall can be treated in multiple ways: It's a nice idea of having a floating shelf. This can also be combined with a collage of frames, small wall art, Some Letters, Arrows, etc. around it to fill the wall as seen below: Regarding the painting idea: Choose the subject as an abstract/geometrical, since this would match the style of your living room. And always hang the painting with its base at just 6-8" from the sofa backrest. (keeping them at an eye level). A) You can opt for a huge landscape framed painting, that would cover the wall. OR B) Have 2 similar vertical frames, hung side by side. Can also add a focus light above to highlight these paintings. You can highlight it with a wallpaper / textured paint finish (only if it is continuous wall) in the family of neutral shades and geometric patterns. Comments (15)two basic issues your room floor is dull is that floor to floor carpet if yes then add a a smaller area rug under your table to get splash of colour, alternatively if you dont want to do that then add some colorful wallpaper behind the sofa. Where you have the table lamp add something taller like a modern floor lamp or a tall spread out palm plant. Take the table lamp and add to a side table if you have one. The second biggest issue is that you have a lovely modern sectional sofa and then you have paired it with a very traditional and very high coffee table that looks like it has marble inlay work done (cant make out clearly). This is not a good pairing. The coffee table is the right size but get something modern and a lot lower, a general guide to this would be one inch to 2 inches lower than the seating height of the sofa. As someone else mentioned an Ottoman that can serve as a coffee table in an alternate colour will also work. Paintings and wall art is something you can experiment with but unless you do something about the coffee table the room will continue to look odd in my opinion. The simplistic solution, you do not wish to discard any furniture would be to paint all the walls in lighter pastles. And use some wall painting frames to highlight certain walls....See More
