I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer.

Hi pankaj. Some lovely ideas above. Is that a door at the end of the passage? It strikes me, especially if you want to make the passage all white, that you might be able to give that door a special treatment to bring some drama to the end of the passage. That draws the attention to the door and away from the passage itself. You could just paint it a vivid colour. I think we tend to let our interior doors remain very plain and boring, when there is no good reason for that to be a rule. The one below would need some sort of backing for privacy, I guess, but I think to put metalwork on a door is a great idea that you could adapt in various ways. (Be aware of the dusting, though! Outside the rain will wash things clean, but not inside.) I like the first one on that site. It's simple and geometric, and could very easily be adapted without hurting the budget.

If I understand the seasons in India correctly, you have already been through the rainy season. Don't wait until the next rainy season to get the problem with your drainage fixed. Now will probably be the ideal time to get it fixed. Please get someone who will tell you what to do and then have the work done. The paint on that wall in your beautiful home will keep coming off!

We are a family of 6 and want to redo the entire family sitting/post-entry first look of our house. We are redoing from scratch the entire sitting area into a modern style family den area ( wooden flooring, straight line sofas, home theatre). But its all just a plan and subject to changes. The thing we want to focus on most is the wall we see first when we enter the house. It's 28 feet tall, and will be the accent wall, for anyone entering as well as sitting in the family area. We have gone through thousands of Houzz photos, called many interior designers home, but still haven't quite found the special idea we are looking for. We are looking for something that would be the star attraction of the house, something that gets the words like spectacular, magnificent out. Any ideas, photos, comments are welcome; we would be deeply grateful if someone could help us find what we want.
