Tub to shower conversion - shower base
Hi all. New here.
Well, I decided to refinish the vanity in my bathroom. Took out the drawers and doors and started to sand them. Then, stood there and looked at it and decided I hated the old, 60's tile behind it so I decided to rip it out. THEN, I turned my head to the tub - same old, 60's tile. You know the rest.
And it all started with a piece of sandpaper.
Now, after ripping out the rest of the tile and the cast iron bath tub I have a bare bathroom.
The question I have for you is... which shower pan to buy. There seems to be a bunch of them from which to choose. I'd like the option of using a shower curtain or doors although that's not mandatory. It's 60"x32". The drain is left and I'm going to have a plumber do that. I'm not interested in tiling the bottom of the shower - just want a pan. Any recommendations? I've looked online and at both Lowes and HD.
Bootz was recommended but I'm concerned about the Styrofoam flexing/compressing. And I've read here that the porcelain on steel will crack easily due to the steel flexing.
The pan will be on slab and it's level.

Comments (202)Pankaj, I just realized that initially you told us that the bathroom area was 12'-0" x 9'-0" and later you mentioned that it was 11'-8" x 8'-0". In the last floor plan, I forgot to change the bathroom with the new dimensions. Below is the floor plan with the correct dimensions for the bathroom. The bedroom is ok, I drew it 19'-2" x 12'-6". The new layout does not change the way things are placed. Everything still fit. The only difference is that the vanity is now 4'-4" long instead of 4'-8". and the toilet is closer to the shower by 1'-0". Can you give me the lengths of the walls K and L. Comments (5)I currently have the same problem! I wanted that but the tiler didn't do it. I saw it after the shower was finished tiling (when I got home from work). They told me it was too difficult to cut the porcelain tile in a triangle shape and install. I did some research and I can't find a product that can hold weight, even if it is just to shave my leg! I suppose I should have had a triangle corner with a base (that wasn't floating) but I think it is too late. Hopefully someone can tell both of us a better answer. Comments (7)Based on the dimensions you have given and the religious aspects you mention you are very restricted in what the layout can be. The best solution I see means you have to move the door towards the south by 36". I suggest you make it a pocket door retracting towards the south wall. This leaves 36" x 60" of space on the north wall for either a shower or tub. The vanity would be on the west wall ( across from the door) spaced away from the tub or shower around 12". Make sure the vanity cabinet is shallow, no more than 21" deep. The vanity should be able to be about 48" wide. The toilet will go on the South wall with the right side of it close to the East wall. Code calls for approx. 33" of width for the toilet overall. If budget allows you could continue the vanity cabinets into the corner of the south wall however keep in mind that most of that area that will be next to the toilet and not easily accessible. But it would provide extra storage or counter space. The sink will have to be centered in the 48" part of the vanity. You could also frame out the southwest corner to capture the side of the vanity instead of a longer vanity. Hope this helps....See MorePlanning for disability

But what I am doing here is suggesting that WHEN you are planning to build or renovate, to consider how your plans will affect you in 20 or 30 years time. Split levels are very hep when you are young. A kitchen 3 steps down at 30 is rarely a problem, but might be a hazard at 60, or, as Marjie1059 suggested, if you break a leg. ... All my parents' homes were terrible for old people. They were forced to move to a bungalow in extreme old sge because the location and design of their home was more suitable for an active young couple with a large family than for an elderly couple with stroke disabilities. I would not want to move again, so my present home has features built in that make ageing in place simpler. Mostly small changes, like grab rails, and lever handles on doors and faucets. A major disability suddenly suffered requires major changes if permanent. I did look at this because it came up in the discussion, but if you look at the heading, Planning for Disability, it means just that. Plan ahead so you don't have to make expensive changes later on. PRO4 years agoGet a ready made base from either Kohler or Maxx
Maxx has this system with tiled walls, ready made base & doors
But Kohler can provide one with a linear drain
Of course American Standard has the linear drain also.
Choreograph Barres need blocking in the walls.
