keep the original door, keep the other half in check and buy a heavy weight curtain to keep out winter drafts.

You will find a new door will NEVER have the character of the original door also features add to the selling potential in the future. The door could be refurbished adding draft seals and secondary glazing units.

If the other half wins then, at least have the leaded glass removed intact for possible reuse especially if it is of high quality and request the new door has a low cill configuration rather than a 4" lump of plastic to step over.

Keep the character. Keep it old. Some firms will make period styles that can incorporate your coloured glass in double-glazing.

We would always recommend replacing original doors with timber.

It would be a shame to lose the authentic look and although UPVC composite doors are much better than they used to be they still don't look like real wood. Our wood doors have the same multi point locking system as a UPVC door for high security and the U-Value (insulation) is the same. No cold drafts with our doors.

Also with our Teknos paint finish you can match it to any colour you want. Farrow & Ball french grey is very popular at the moment.

We recently did this custom door with bespoke stained glass. The client wanted the glass to replicate the original stained glass but wanted new seals etc so we re-designed the glazing for them and they matched the sage green paint that they had used around their home.

I hope you manage to persuade your partner to either keep the original door or replace it with wood.

Are there any more ideas on how to best deal with 1930s coloured glass doors, partitions and windows. We have the originals which look great but are so cold in winter.

Hello, I’d love an answer to this question too. We’ve recently bought a 1930s home with original windows which require double glazing or else we’ll be freezing in the winter. However I’d like to keep the stained glass if possible. Any suggestions?

We sourced antique windows, had them repaired and encapsulated into double glazing. Then paired this with a cottage style composite door with obscure glass that is very similar to the texture of the antique glass.Every visitor remarks how amazing the entrance is and no draughts! In my opinion you can combine the old with the new to great effect.

Can you let us know who you used to do this. looks fab. We have existing door and side windows, but although stain glass, it isn't the best design and isn't in best condition, so think best to find replacement, but also would want to double glaze behind the original stain glass.. Many thanks Andy
