i would say, choose a theme just for that space and work around it! for example: maybe "asian" theme! paint the back wall RED or ORANGE, have a piece of buddha statue on the top most rack, you can use one shelve to just hold books with some decorative book ends, and instead of the chair, you can use the asian trunck boxes (if you google for asian trunks, you can see what i am talking about! - look for square boxes), this way, you can also tuck those boxes under the desk/shelf when not in use and the trunk could also be a storage for your files - you can also place a floor vase with some bamboo sticks - the asian theme would really work here as your wood is black/brown this would also turn out to be a peaceful writing space - enjoy!

16' long is a lot of room. Can you post a pic of the rest of the room? Remove every door you can. Every doorway does not need one and doing this one simple thing will remove a ton of bulk and make your space feel more open - no need to remove the hardware if you think you might want the doors back sometime in the future. Are you up for painting the walls and possibly the trim? Is this a sectional? If so, you might have to split it in order to get it to fit. The curtain into the bedroom is a good thing. I have used that idea, I love it, and I am not from India! Change them out for a lighter color and add panels to the ones you have - make them at least 3x fuller than the doorway. Pull them all over to the hinge side of the frame after the door has been removed. Your pictures need to be rehung and you can address that once you have found a furniture arrangement that works.

Keya, glad you decided to take the one reader's idea about moving the armoires in front of windows that you don't need and giving the bed a wall of its own! And, yes, you can have Roman shades on one wall and layered drapes on the other. When I had drapes made for my tall sitting room windows/doors, I had them use the same fabric for the Roman shades for the smaller windows on the other wall. For me personally, in these older Indian homes with all the odd nooks and niches in the walls, perhaps it would be more soothing to have a light/med tone paint on the walls that blends with the drapes/blinds for an 'uninterrupted' look, and I would use the same color on ceiling and beams. (but that is just my thought) I would start the process with a large carpet with your favorite colors, then choose your Bedcover & cushions, then your wall paint and fabric for drapes/blinds ..Not certain what style you like, but if you really like a particular Ethnic bedcover fabric, you can always have them stitched into curtains or Roman shades too. Hi Agyeya, The floor plan screenshot is a little unclear to make the appropriate decision. The decision will be based on the size of the balconies. What we can tell you without that information is that there are a few points that need to be considered before making that decision Is the builder willing to allow you to change the look of the building (which will happen if you take the balcony inside). Is it a small or a big balcony? Is the view from the balcony good? Is there enough storage space in the house? (all those extra things have to go somewhere) If the balcony is small, you can take it into the room as it will serve no useful purpose. If it is large and you get a good view, use french doors. This way you have the option of making it a visually large space.
