Hi, Consider this: Color of lights depends on the substantial area for which it is going to be used. For residential we normally go for same color light; especially warm light. An exception can be made for landscaping, even there it's limited. Different colored lights are used in clubs, pubs, concerts, majorly places that provide entertainment. Lights are not only for visibility purpose, choosing right color light provides visibility as well as calm to our eyes. Shapes as in; you can have LED lights as well as decorative lights. Hello there, Since you have put an all white kitchen with recessed lighting, you won't be needing much lumens for the island. As for the length, two small pendants with 12/15W lamps spaced 2-3' apart would be enough to illuminate the space. Buying a home that needs a lot of updating. We plan on painting the kitchen cabinets white or cream and installing granite countertops, new sink, new light fixtures, new stove vent, etc. The floor is hickory hardwood. My dilemma is the island. Should I keep it? Or remove it? If I keep it I am thinking of topping it with a dark butcher block to match the floor. I am open to any suggestions to make this kitchen better, without breaking the bank.
