One of the first issues is the orientation of the house. Solar panels do better on the south side. You should research whether your roof needs to support more weight. You will also do well to consider all aspects of solar building --- you can find books available in e-format for this. Go to Amazon and read reviews carefully. Things like roof overhang, kinds of windows, etc, can make a big difference in cooling your house (I'm assuming in India, heating isn't a big issue). For the solar panels, what's available where you are is a starting point. I will note that in sunny countries, like Turkey and Tunisia, I see a lot of solar hot water on roofs, but not so many solar panels.

I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer.

I am looking for Glass Hob, Vertical Glass Chimney and Built In Oven. I am getting mixed feedback across different forums so thought to reach here (impressed with some of the pointed comments so far). I am planning to choose between Bosch, Elica, Hafele and Faber. Can anyone please help ? I need to finalize it in next 3-4 days. I am purely going by the brand name (plus my previous experience with Bosch) so preferred the following 1). Bosch Glass Hob 2). Bosch Built In Oven (though it has aluminium burner but the one with brass burner 'Hafele/Elica' has the problem of making utensils black) 3). For chimney they do not offer 60cm Filter less chimney hence thinking to choose between Hafele or Elica. Please suggest if this is the right choice. Thanks in advance

Pros of going with Sink and Hob on same side: 1- Perceived convenience of the user 2- Hiding the Chimney duct will be easier on the end to end wall Unit 3- Provides a view of the living area to the chef Pros of going with Sink and Hob on opposite sides: 1- Electric points and Gas provisions for Hob and Chimney are already provided for, may not require any changes 2- Separate Wet and Dry zones in Kitchen 3- Guests gets a view of the cooking gas Some of them are listed above, please take a call accordingly.
