    Hello Janani,

You may choose from Siemens or Bosch. They are better ones.

90cm wide freestanding range cooker is the best suited for Indian cooking in my personal experience - no fear of heavy utensil or spills. 90cm wide mechanical chimney with little or no electronics/ led display for less hassle.

I would like to go with either Faber or elica considering the after sales service and budget. So would be great if someone can help me among these 2 brands, which model is better in Indian cooking.

    Hello Docpam,

As you were not keen on Bosch/Siemens please have a look at Hood Infinite BK TC 90 (Faber) . Tell the vendor that you need recirculation mode or carbon filter model.

Most of the chimneys also have a conversion feature from ductless to duct and vice versa.

BTW, it is not always the aesthetics that matter. Functionality should be the most important part of any kitchen related decision. Duct chimneys are more efficient and thus are practically better suited for indian kitchens.

Allow me to explain - Ductless chimneys use activated carbon filters to slowly absorb the fumes and oil and recycle the air.

    - Activated Carbon filters can not be washed and therefore filters needs replacement every 3-5 months. Cost increases !

    - Ductless Chimney needs to be operated on lowest speed for better smoke absorption in carbon filters thus they have lower suction power.

    - Carbon Filters will just absorb only smoke and oil, the temperature (hot air) will still remain in the kitchen. So, take an informed call.

    Thanks,
    Nitin

So you still want to go for ductless chimney?

My interior is done... We dint provide vent for the duct... Doing it now seems too difficult.... Am in real dilemma.... Cos the duct to reach out will need to pass through utility area.. Making it altogether more difficult... Am weighing options... All the literature says ducting is better... I understand...

I myself chose a Faber chimney and hob some 3 months back and the only disadvantage I'm facing is with respect to the hob where Faber installation team refuse to seal the joint between the hob and the countertop with silicone. it's practically impossible to prevent spills that we're leaking to the base cabinets. we got it sealed ourselves but I sincerely feel the installation team should have done it

Came across few articles which described that cook top are most efficient than built in hob. Heard that built in hob the main advantage is the look in the kitchen. Any advice please.

    Hello Janani,

Its like which is better ... a front load washing machine or top load washing machine :)

These are 2 different products, both have their pros and cons .One has to choose therefrom based on their personal preferences or requirements.

It would be better if you specify your requirements/ important criterias/pricing to help people recommend a suitable product or brand to you.

    Thanks,

Prestige is the best brand for India as it provides service readily being an Indian Company. Elica and Faber are other good options. But considering the hard spots and marks due to Indian cooking, prestige is the best option

Elica brand is worthless. i bought their chimney 1 and 1/2 years back and today I called their engineers for a complaint of oil dropping from chimney. They are asking to do following to control leakage

    1. deep cleaning - 1850/-

    2. change “housing” - 3800/-

    3. change filter - 2000/-

they don’t have any solutions for a problem, but only believe in changing parts and charging high from their customers. the total of near about 7500/- is what it is costing me for just 1.5 year old chimney. its horrible

Sorry to hear your experience. Just to understand the usage..was it serviced regularly every six months?

I bought a hob from Faber . Within 1 year I had problem in burners. It is because hob type of kitchen maintenance is difficult. And the service staffs each 6 month will come to do the service also cost 700+ each time . And Faber service center is no good than others. We need to call multiple times for them to arrange technicians. I recommend use two kitchens . One for Job, which you keep idle and use only on occasions. And a work area kitchen where you use a cook top , which you can use roughly. No care about maintenance. Maintenance Cost is less.

I am looking for Glass Hob, Vertical Glass Chimney and Built In Oven. I am getting mixed feedback across different forums so thought to reach here (impressed with some of the pointed comments so far). I am planning to choose between Bosch, Elica, Hafele and Faber. Can anyone please help ? I need to finalize it in next 3-4 days. I am purely going by the brand name (plus my previous experience with Bosch) so preferred the following

    1). Bosch Glass Hob

2). Bosch Built In Oven (though it has aluminium burner but the one with brass burner 'Hafele/Elica' has the problem of making utensils black)

3). For chimney they do not offer 60cm Filter less chimney hence thinking to choose between Hafele or Elica.

Please suggest if this is the right choice.

    Thanks in advance

Hi, for a highly efficient chimney unit (rangehood with baffles) have you considered using an undermount Falmec Milano available in widths of 600mm, 900mm and 1200mm. These units have oil collectors, they also have very powerful extractor fans that can expel 1140 cubic meters of air per hour and their fan & motors are installed through the roof expelling odors and steam out to the atmosphere while this system also makes the units very quiet to operate.

    Hope this helps, Malcolm.

For Indian cooking, Faber and Elica are excellent choices as they offer powerful suction and durability. Both brands are known for reliable after-sales support. Hafele and Kaff are also good, but Faber's comprehensive service network gives it an edge.

When choosing a chimney and hob for Indian cooking, opt for a chimney with high suction power (1200-1500 m³/hr) to effectively handle heavy spices and oil fumes. For the hob, a 3- or 4-burner model with brass burners ensures durability and even heat distribution for diverse Indian dishes.

  • last year

Choosing a chimney and hob for Indian cooking requires a high level of efficiency and ease of cleaning. To handle the heavy smoke and strong odors typical of Indian cuisine, choose a chimney with a high suction power (around 1000-1200 m3/h). Select a multi-burner hob with an even distribution of heat. Make sure the hob is constructed from materials that are easy to maintain, such as glass or stainless steel, and that it is equipped with convenient features such as flame failure safety and spill trays.
