Furniture placement in sunken living room with fireplace

Hi, we just bought a house with a sunken living room. The living room only has two solid walls, the other two sides - One has the stairs to enter the living room and the other is a sliding door to the patio. There is a fireplace on one of the solid walls. We want suggestions on where to place the television and how to arrange the furniture. The dilemma is because we do not want to use up the only other available wall for the TV, since that would take up the wall and we cannot place the furniture facing either the TV or the fireplace. If we place the TV on the wall beside the fireplace, it wouldnt be in the center and for viewing purposes we would need to angle it. Also we are not sure how to build the cabinets for this arrangement. Attached is a floorplan of the living room and any suggestions/ideabooks are welcome.

If I were you, I would put the tv on the end solid wall and float a pair of sofas in the room perpendicular to the tv wall. Then you'd have your tv and your fireplace at opposite ends of the room and you could enjoy either of them equally. I'm not sure how large your room is, but there may be room for another chair or two. You are best to draw up the room to scale and experiment with furniture dimensions to see what nicely fits there. Allow enough room for a coffee table or a large upholstered ottoman in the centre. Does this help?

Agree with a scaled floor plan would tell a better story. At the moment the small cabinets could be expanded to create narrow steps down to the sunken living room.

This is not the main living. This is a second living at the basement.so will be used for tv viewing and casual family time .Only issue is we will loose 3 feet on the right side as a landing space before entering the bedroom and also around a feet for the steps.After loosing this the area will be around 14feet *9 feet .IS it still ok for a sunken area or will it get congested?

Do you have any photos you can share? We do better with both floor plan and pix. I think the 9' area should be devoted to a library/reading nook with bookcases on the two walls and a comfy chair and floor lamp for reading. I see lots of doors but no windows in your space. The stretch of space from the entry to the balcony/gallery should be kept open for traffic flow, so Place the FP on the 7.5' wall to be seen upon entering. I think 'd try a sectional with two equal wings. Put the TV on the 7' wall between the two doors and float the sofa so one wing faces the FP and the other the TV. Use a credenza 25% wider than the TV rather than a TV stand. In the jog that has a 6' and a 4' wall, try a family game or chess table and stools. Be sure to get a big coffee table made of reclaimed wood so people can put their feet up on it.

For the dining room, I think I'd orient the table 90 degrees from how it's drawn, and I would make it a drop leaf or gateleg table so that it can be made smaller when not being used for dining. I would embrace the idea that the entry is right in the middle of the living room, and bring the living room furniture out towards the fireplace so the fireplace is connected to the seating area. Maybe TV above fireplace. In that back corner where the sofa is drawn, I'd make that a small work/office space.

If the drawing is anything close to scale the room looks to be long and narrow. You could consider two separate sitting areas. One cozy for the fireplace and a roomier one at the other end for TV viewing. Just a thought it really depends on your lifestyle.
