Comments (17)We have incredibly hard water, no softener and lots of mineral deposits on everything that touches water for any length of time. The solution is incredibly simple: white vinegar. It very simply and easily and gently dissolves the minerals. We had a shower head that my husband was ready to replace because the mineral deposits had clogged it. I unscrewed the head, submerged it in a cup of vinegar for 24 hours, rinsed it off and screwed it back on. Voila! Like new! I have tried CLR: worthless. I have tried abrasives: all they do is scratch and don't get rid of the deposits. Another spot where minerals accumulate is around the kitchen faucet. I take a bunch of paper towels, soak them in vinegar, then pack them around the faucet over the mineral deposits, keeping them good and wet with vinegar and let them sit for about a day, more or less. Rinse and wipe clean, will look like new! Our cat loves water. His favorite thing in the world is if I fill the bathroom sink with water and let him play in it. What happens? Water spots all over the mirror. Wet a cloth, add a dash of vinegar to the cloth, wipe the mirror... clean and shiny!...See Morei need help for my formal living and unformal living and dinning
Comments (300)I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer....See MoreI want indian design house
Comments (4)I too am thinking of using Indian-inspired decorations and colours. The house I have bought is boring and needs a funky touch! It needs some joy and a lack of seriousness!! To the furniture I already own I am adding a few op-shop buys which I can afford to paint without feeling I am destroying their integrity! I am also enjoying sourcing second-hand bits which I can spray-paint and decorate. I am going to add a few trims from shaped and cut-out plyboard to create false arches over some windows and doors. Also I have some gold/brass-coloured beading from a framing business to add a little glitz to odd mirrors I have picked up. I'm going through my stash of fabrics, collected over a life-time of sewing and hoarding! to create some throws and curtains that will hopefully give an authentic Indian flavour to the windows, beds and couches without costing me a fortune....See MoreWall paper ... Comments (21)Cost is a factor also between papering and paint. 20 years ago, I painted and wallpapered everything myself. 10 years ago when I moved and bought a condo, I hired the papering and I did the painting. Last year when I downsized, my handyman and I just did the painting. No paper. I have found that at my age papering is too much for me. When I get down I can't get up and when I am up it feels too good to get down :>)...See MoreAngel 18432
