The living room and dining room on the ground floor open up to this verandah with glazed timber double doors. This typology allows the rain water runoff from the site to be absorbed back into the ground allowing the underground aquifers to recharge and reducing the storm water run off from the site that burdens the municipal drainage system (when they exist) and flooding of low lying areas (when they don’t).

With an L shaped countertop, we designed it with space enough for a dishwasher and other appliances that are a must in the kitchen. Apart from shelves to store we also created a custom-made wooden shelf to grow herbs and plants that are to be used in the cooking. We designed it strategically to place the shelf near the windows so that the plants receive as much sunlight as possible.
