These young clients wanted a modern kitchen. Since their home is located in a heavily wooded area, our concept was to take cues from nature. We started with the simple slab door front cabinets, and then brought in organic, “barky” looking glass back splash and rice paper laminated in glass for the upper cabinet fronts. The granite has very bold crystals which we thought resembled sliced tree trunks. The sheers in the adjoining room soften the wall of windows, and give a hint to the tree shapes beyond. To add some visual excitement, we played off the angle of the opposite wall for this Franklin kitchen’s island. We elevated the glass to bar height, and it appears to float in the space. Our clients report that it’s not only used to sit at, but works wonderfully for entertaining. Since it’s raised, it works well for a buffet surface, but doesn’t interfere with the cook. Neutral shades, natural light and simple accents are key to creating an atmosphere of comfort and peach.

The Chabres wanted to increase their kitchen space, connect the living and family room with the kitchen and take advantage of the fabulous view they have of the foothills all while keeping the modern design of their existing architecture.

The clients wanted a soothing retreat for their bedroom so stayed with a calming color on the walls and bedding. Soft silk striped window treatments frame the bay window and seating area.

This living room was inspired by the love of neutrals and an urge from the client to incorporate pops of colour. Yellow and Gray was our launch palette. We soon found lovely visuals, to support our mission. We kept the furniture calm and serene then punched each piece with pops of fun sunshine yellow!! A master bedroom with an ocean inspired, upscale hotel atmosphere. The soft blues, creams and dark woods give the impression of luxury and calm. Soft sheers on a rustic iron rod hang over woven grass shades and gently filter light into the room. Rich painted wood panel molding helps to anchor the space. A reading area adorns the bay window and the antique tray table offers a worn nautical motif. Brass fixtures and the rough hewn dresser remind one of the sea. Artwork and accessories also lend a coastal feeling.

The living room was restored to be a bright and crisply appointed space for entertaining and music. The original douglas fir flooring was refinished and complimented by the pale green painted trim. Photographer: Bruce Damonte
