A substantial center island made of soapstone slabs has ample space to accommodate prepping for dinner on one side, and the kids doing their homework on the other. The pull-out drawers at the end contain extra refrigerator and freezer space. The glass backsplash tile offers a refreshing luminescence to the area. Basement Over $100,000 (John Kraemer and Sons)

Design Excellence Award winning kitchen. The open kitchen and family room coordinate in colors and performance fabrics; the vertical striped chair backs are echoed in sofa throw pillows. The antique brass chandelier adds warmth and history. The island has a double custom edge countertop providing a unique feature to the island, adding to its importance.
