Contin Architecture and Design

The thing that is most memorable about this project is the Clients, and their love for all things design and European. They found the perfect house in the perfect location to renovate, and absolutely knocked it out of the park. At a zoning meeting early in the process it was apparent that there would be “many eyes” on this project. The end result was a wonderful and amazing house that takes its place among the A-list of houses along Country Club Drive.

Clients who had lived many years in a treasured 19th century cape sought a significant change in lifestyle. A spectacular site, a restrictive budget, and a desire for an unapologetically contemporary house were parameters which deeply influenced the design solution. The sober expression of the house nevertheless responds intentionally to the climatic demands of its site, and is clad humbly in the most traditional of New England building materials, the local white cedar shingle. 3,900 SF home that has achieved a LEED Silver certification. The house is sited on a wooded hill with southern exposure and consists of two 20’ x 84’ bars. The second floor is rotated 15 degrees beyond ninety to respond to site conditions and animate the plan. Materials include a standing seam galvalume roof, native stone, and rain screen cedar siding.
