Vertically-oriented sconce lighting , and generous use of recessed pot-lights allow multiple moods (from romantic to get-serious-about-make-up) to be created easily. Extra large, wood grain floor tiles complement dark charcoal wall colour. Raef Grohne

This modern home is artfully tucked into a wooded hillside, and much of the home's beauty rests in its direct connection to the outdoors. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels slide open to connect the interior with the expansive deck outside, nearly doubling the living space during the warmer months of the year. A palette of exposed concrete, glass, black steel, and wood create a simple but strong mix of materials that are repeated throughout the residence. That balance of texture and color is echoed in the choice of interior materials, from the flooring and millwork to the furnishings, artwork and textiles.

A floating vanity in warm gray and matte white lacquer keeps necessities within reach, yet easily tucked away with a light push. Its streamlined design and integrated handles harmonize perfectly with the square angles of the tiles and space. The existing ceiling provides an interesting angled contrast; hanging pendants and chandelier in hand-blown milky glass are as artistic as they are functional. Photography by Anice Hoachlander.

The organic shape of the bath dictated the style. Soft curves & clean clutter free lines were generated with a modern slant whilst respecting the age and era of the home. The colour palette soft and visually restful, enhancing the impression of space and calm. A custom designed window and the addition of a fan light over the existing doorway gives an appropriate blend between the old and the new, providing much improved natural lighting.
