The house was originally a single story face brick home, which was ‘cut in half’ to make two smaller residences. It is on a triangular corner site, and is nestled in between a unit block to the South, and large renovated two storey homes to the West. The owners loved the original character of the house, and were keen to retain this with the new proposal, but felt that the internal plan was disjointed, had no relationship to the paved outdoor area, and above all was very cold in Winter, with virtually no natural light entering the house. The existing plan had the bedrooms and bathrooms on the side facing the outdoor area, with the living area on the other side of the hallway. We swapped this to have an open plan living room opening out onto a new deck area. An added bonus through the design stage was adding a rumpus room, which was built to the boundary on two sides, and also leads out onto the new deck area. Two large light wells open into the roof, and natural light floods into the house through the skylights above. The automated skylights really help with airflow, and keeping the house cool in the Summer. Warm timber finishes, including cedar windows and doors have been used throughout, and are a low key inclusion into the existing fabric of the house. Photography by Sarah Braden

Set in south-west London this stunning 5 bedroom Victorian terrace features a Mediterranean-inspired family bathroom creating a relaxing, calming haven in which the family can completely relax and was published in the October 2015 issue of Homes & Gardens, Dream Bathrooms. When the property was purchased 5 years ago, the owners wanted to redesign the master ensuite and create more space so that all the family members could use. The owners were able to double the size of the room and created sufficient space to include a walk-in shower that features Drummond’s elegant Dalby Shower with curved pipe and a 300mm rose in Nickel finish “We chose these classic-style fittings from Drummonds because they are so glamorous. They are luxurious, beautiful made and built to last” says the owner. The striking Tay bath tub with its gleaming polished finish and a plunger waste is set against a wall paneled in antique mirror from Rupert Bevan Furniture & Interiors, all of which helps to reflect the light that streams in through the windows in the roof making the room feel even bigger. The double Crake basin with its chunky storage shelf and the beautiful Atlantic Grey marble comes in complete contrast with the beautiful Mediterranean floor tiles in sea blues and greens from Rustico Tile & Stone. This guest bathroom features white subway tile with black marble accents and a leaded glass window. Black trim and crown molding set off a dark, antique William and Mary highboy and a Calcutta gold and black marble basketweave tile floor. Faux gray and light blue walls lend a clean, crisp feel to the room, compounded by a white pedestal tub and polished nickel faucet.

A luxurious master ensuite bathroom with a large square bath on a raised platform to give it grandeur. Asymetric, beautiful arrangement of glass pendant lights over the bath help to elevate this bathroom to spa status. A mirrored wall creates a great feeling of space and teal cabinets behind provide great storage.

This formerly drab and ordinary space in an 1853 Greek Revival home became a fun bath area for the homeowner's two year old with the addition of blue and green mosaic tiles, a child-sized toilet, a larger bath tub, and pendant lighting.
