The homeowners had resided in North Delhi for over 40 years, so the decision to move to Gurgaon was an emotional one. “Their existing home lacked adequate security measures and there were concerns over safety in their area. As a result, the move had to be made,” says Meena Murthy Kakkar, co-founder and chief interior designer of Envisage.
“The brief was clear. The new space had to be inviting, functional and aesthetic. With the couple’s extended family continuing to reside in Delhi, we decided to give the apartment an upmarket holiday vibe; a relaxing haven befitting the arduous two-hour journey from Delhi to Gurgaon. We created various zones for entertaining and lounging, since the couple enjoys hosting guests.”

“We maintained a mix of light and dark hues, keeping the home’s south-east orientation in mind. Since the apartment is blessed with abundant sunlight, we accented it with darker hues to conjure a warm and inviting feel. For the walls, a light clay-coloured base was used instead of the standard off-white. The red wall, embellished with decorative wooden columns, is a nod to the clients’ colourful Punjabi heritage,” says Meena.

The dining area lies to the left of the foyer. With its booth-style setting, it channels a diner-style vibe. A grey sofa, pressed to the wall, forms seating for one side of the dining table, while a trio of vintage-style chairs forms the other. An oversized Victorian-esque clock accents the wall behind, complemented by a pair of bar chandeliers that illuminate the dining space.
“The dining area, living room and open kitchen flow into each other, affording an extended area for entertaining. With food holding a dear place in the clients’ home and hearts, it was important that it was reflected in the layout,” notes Vishal.

The corridor to the left of the living room leads to the master bedroom, where beige, brown and walnut characterise the base palette. A wooden frame adorns the wall behind the bed, playing host to a pistachio-upholstered headboard and gilded leaf-motif frames. Glass cluster chandeliers flank the bed on either side, radiating soft haloes of light.

“The master bedroom has been tailored for optimal safety and comfort. The bed, for instance, features a leather edge to ensure protection against accidental bumps,” says Meena.

Situated to the right of the living room is the guest bedroom. Here, a monochrome palette prevails, with a modern black-and-white four-poster bed, daisy-hued nightstands and a deep-toned, wood-panelled floor. The familiar industrial theme makes a reappearance in the form of glass-shaded bedside lamps.
“The interiors here are slightly muted in comparison to the rest of the house, but they are just as functional in design. The room has a relatively smaller footprint, but its hushed hues make it a calm and soothing retreat,” Meena says.
