This villa architecture is seeded in nature, and features eco-friendly materials such as mud plaster, rammed-earth bricks and design elements such as filler slabs, courtyards, solar panels and skylights. The intent of the home was to showcase the enhanced living experience, both at an individual and a community level, designed by Mindspace Architects.

“The interiors are minimalist, with ample light and ventilation by way of visually interconnected spatial volumes, skylights and pockets of greenery,” says Akshay Mehta of Svamitva Architecture who worked on the interiors of the project.

The house is characterised by an angular facade, open to the elements on all four sides.

The main door opens into a double-height entrance courtyard, where an interior tree takes pride of place.

Materials like mud plaster for external surfaces and lime plaster for internal areas introduce an earthy ambience. This is further reinforced with flooring of natural Kota stone with textural variations.

The living room lies directly ahead of the foyer. Here, ochre walls, a mustard sofa, and cane and wood furniture channel a sunshine palette, while the grey Kota stone flooring provides a cooling counterbalance.

“The living room is dominated by natural materials that reflect the wellness ethos of the enclave. Here, and throughout the home, the earthy theme shines through,” says Akshay Mehta.

The dining room is characterised by wood and stone, and cuts a minimalist figure. The dining chairs steal the spotlight here with their lean, graceful lines. Sweeping French windows offer a view of the garden outside.

Sleek black under-cabinets and countertops, with contrasting pale woodwork above, bring drama to the kitchen. The ochre walls and Kota stone floor, meanwhile, hold a mirror to the living room, providing a seamless aesthetic.

The guest bedroom is plain and pared-back, with just a bed and nightstands by way of furniture. The earth-toned palette is a little hat-tip to the view outside the window.

A floating staircase with wooden treads rises up to the mezzanine floor. A sculptural blossom-inspired chandelier cascades down beside it, presiding over the entrance courtyard below.

The mezzanine plays host to the family den. Ochre returns as the dominant colour here, while breezy blue-and-white accents nod to the sky above.

“The woven pouffes and chair add a tactile touch to the room,” notes Mehta.

A flight of steps connects the mezzanine to the floor above, occupied by the master bedroom and the third bedroom.

In the master bedroom, ochre walls and wooden flooring project an all-brown shell. The furniture is half-old, half-new in spirit. The four-poster bed, for example, is contemporary, while the vintage desk inspires an old-world flair.

The third bedroom, which the designers term the daughter’s room, echoes the home’s ochre shell, while the wooden bed and credenza complement the down-to-earth setting.

“We chose blush-pink accents for the daughter’s bedroom. There’s also a little painting corner and an accent chair,” says Seiferlein.

Thermal comfort was an important factor to consider. Therefore, the roof is protected by a heat-resistant layer of tiles. Likewise, on the lower floors, terracotta pots have been used to aid in the dissipation of heat from the roof.
